Sometimes we get awesome stuff in replies to trolls actually. As Mike wrote the other day they offer good places to practice your arguments because sometimes their reasoning is so outlandish that you actually have to stop and think how to properly answer to something so displaced from reality.
It's been like 2 years now that things took a hard nosedive. I mean, Trump in the US and other idiots like him elsewhere, constant attacks on hard fought rights, cronyism and corruption going on in plain sight with little to no punishment and people being general assholes without any shame. Funny comments followed the trend. Something that would be a bad joke a few years are now reality.
I'm not pessimistic, I do believe things will improve. But I also believe we humanity needs to go through this mess before it gets better. I don't think things will get better in 2019 and in fact they may get worse in some places (like in my country). But I hope to be here next year and that funny comments list gets more 3 digit records. We need to laugh in hard times, it makes things a bit more tolerable.
If there is any functioning justice system in the UK this will be shot down at higher courts. It's basic justice, you can't make somebody pay for something another person was found guilty of.
"In almost every case, the direct cause of the death was a human being doing something stupid,"
In all cases of suicide streamed in FB it's a human with a psychological and/or psychiatric problem. You are contradicting yourself. Instead of blaming FB why don't we look at how well mental care is faring?
And it's amusing how worried you are about Facebook when it's already showing clear signs of going Orkut.
I do agree that we could make it *easier* for new entrants (ie: less taxes on them and regulating data relocating) and incentivize decentralized services. But regulate how big a service may get? That's a no-no.
Re: A Government of Criminals by Criminals for Criminals
Dude, don't. We are talking about broadband. Sure there are other problems to be solved but if we think this way nothing will be done. Specially because some stuff will help solve other when taken care of. As the article points out, not having decent connectivity is an economic pitfall. And if your economy is frozen then you don't have the money to solve the rest of the problems you mentioned.
The main purpose wasn't to restore NN. It was a long shot and everybody knew it even if it would be a pleasant surprise if it worked. The purpose was to expose the lawmakers that couldn't care less about their constituents. And this mission was accomplished with distinction.
Gloat harder Pai. Trump is already nosediving. You'll follow soon.
This year was... Complicated. At least here it was much worse than 2017 but possibly not the worst I've lived. Still, it's reassuring to see people like you guys at TD fighting the good fight on their area of expertise. I'm quite sure I'm putting my money to good use with you and the others I try to support.
That last comment is gold. I marked both funny and insightful but I can see people going for one or other. And heck, it applies to so many people talking about things they have zero experience with them as if they had PhDs.
So they are starting to realize cord cutting is a thing with some years delay and then promptly failing to adapt by fragmenting the market with tons of individual services that will make people go back to pirating. Who would have predicted it?
Re: Netflix is approaching 40% of ALL internet data now.
Interestingly Netflix only sends data when *I* ask on a connection I already *PAID* for. I believe you are making the connections free since Netflix is going to pay my part in your ideal world, right?
Better late than never eh? You guys took your goddamn sweet time. There is plenty of evidence showing something was wrong here but it took them several months to say "hey, there's something wrong worth looking into here".

If anything, being easily crackable made it more valuable. And people tend to buy what they like. The only games that fear piracy are the crappy ones.
