> Nope, because remember- you're not buying the movie. You're licensing it. (eyeroll)
Wrong. First sale says I can do whatever I want with things I purchase, including DVDs. That includes selling, lending, or renting them to other people. Copyright has nothing to do with it.
If the big media players want to go down the licensing road, they will be f*cked. Can you imagine the backlash if they try and tell people what they can do with stuff they bought?
High Fructose Corn Syrup is a mixture of Glucose and Fructose. The number tells you how much Fructose is in it: HFCS-55 has 55% Fructose and 45% Glucose.
Sucrose (Sugar) is simple Glucose and Fructose tied together with a weak bond. So essentially, Sugar is HFCS-50. People who tell you there is some big difference are wrong.
Fructose is generally more harmful/fattening than Glucose, and most studies that find some kind of problem with HFCS are testing ones with more Fructose than Glucose.
Here's the problem. Both HFCS and sugar are bad for you. But in the past, people had a sugar bowl and they would put sugar on a few things and in their coffee. Now, HFCS is in everything (mainly to deal with the fact that the "fat free" fad has made food taste crappy). So now we can't avoid it.

Really? How do you do that? All other products allow returns, except media. Any wonder people pirate? Now with the move to digital distribution, we can't even sell a game if it sucks.
Ever bought an album due to the single and found it was terrible? People like you eat that sh!t sandwich and grin. People like us do something.
Nuclear is green. Nuclear causes no greenhouse gas emission, and is the only practical replacement for coal-fired electrical generation plants. Sure, spent rods are radioactive, but wouldn't you prefer the byproduct of electricity generation to be all in one place, rather than soot and pollution spread finely all over the place?
Anyone who is against nuclear and claims to be green is an delusional.
I just finished watching the free movie, "Steal This Film", made in 2006, which talks about about the Pirate Bay and copyright in general. They point out that the only way to stop sites like the Pirate Bay, and downloading, is to "break" the internet. It seems, 5 years later, the US is trying to do just that.
(I recommend part I of the film. Part II gets a bit boring.)
Re: Personally, I am enjoying the shrill cries of the pro-piracy lobby
Hey, don't get us wrong. We don't care. Its not like any of this will make a dent in piracy. People will just go underground. We're worried about collateral damage. Frankly, this is just another way for Hollywood to slit its own throat. None of this will stop piracy.
Being a "real" engineer, I get annoyed when the term is conflated with technical workers. Mechanical / Chemical / Aerospace / Nuclear / Petroleum / Civil / Computer engineers need to get a 4 year degree (B.Sc.) A "network" or a "software" engineer may have taken a few courses through a website, for all I know. In Canada, at least, only people who have an appropriate degree can call themselves an "engineer". Also, all engineers must take ethics exams and can be barred from practicing engineering (by their provincial association) if they breach these ethics.
Who is the grasshopper? The police? They are working stiffs like everyone else. Are you really advocating harming police officers?
I guess it must be different in the US. In Canada, we had the Vancouver riots and have yet to see anyone in jail. Tell you what, let's switch cops for a while. You can have our calm polite cops and we'll take your skull-crackers. I'm tired of dirty hippies smashing up small business owners stores, and pretending like they are "protesting" anything.
Frankly, we are all the 1%. 80% of the world lives on $10/day.
Hey moron. What part of "unvested shares" did you not understand? I, too, had vested and unvested shares at a company. When I was laid off, I got the vested ones but not the unvested one.
It isn't anything they "earned". That is exactly the reason why companies have vested and unvested options. If it was something you already earned, they would all be vested.
Maybe try reading the article before spouting off like a dipshit.
The book and entertainment industry better not push too hard, and just be happy with the way things are. Think about all those DVD's and books sitting on your shelf. By the first sale doctrine, you can "lend" them to other people without violating any laws. So if you don't watch a movie for a year, you could conceviable "lend" it to over 4000 people. If the technology is created that ensures a digital copy can only be watched by one person at a time, then I could be lending my movies and books out to people all over the world, and not break any law, because I'm not "copying" anything. All this twisting in the wind by the media industry is to prevent this.
Re: Re: Every "tiny" new step threatens a TOTAL loss of control, though!

This has nothing to do with copyright! Amazon bought the book and now they are lending it. This is first sale, the same law that protects libraries. Wake up!
I hate mainstream news when they report idiotic things like this with a straight face. It would be refreshingly honest if they had the balls to finish the report and say, "That, of course, is insane."
Re: The problem with counterfeit goods is that they're counterfeit.
Hey, communist, listen up. If the public votes with their wallets and buys counterfeit goods, who the hell are you to say otherwise? The free market is a democracy. You are advocating for communism. Just move to China, so the government can take care of you and protect you from yourself.

The Pirate Bay does not host infringing material, therefore there is nothing to enforce. You outlaw the Pirate Bay, you outlaw Google.
