The bimbo signed a publishing deal?! What the hell happened to self publishing?! She could have seen this coming a mile away. If you're the leader of the pirate party one of the stupidest things you can do is get a publishing deal. It's like being in league with the enemy, even more so if they inevitably start taking down the content you produced. Whether you consent to the takedowns doesn't matter, you can't get into a contract with an oldfashioned publisher and run a party which advocates more open access at the same time.
"You think Disney would have put all that money into movies based on PD stories if they couldn't get a copyright on the result? I don't."
Neither do I, but what is also worth noting is that apparently Walt found the copyright term at the time plenty to start a business based on it. For me the problem isn't so much the entire thing called "copyright", it's the fact that studios like Disney are trying to extend copyright to eternity. The original term of copyright was fine and a nice way to reward creators for their contribution to culture and the public domain. It's what came after that turned copyright into the monstrosity it is today.
Speak for yourself, not everyone absolutely worships Disney movies. Looking at the older Disney movies most of them have pretty ugly artwork if you ask me, I'd rather read the story and use my imagination instead. Seriously, who'd pay for Snow White and her voodoo-mask-faced dwarfs these days, yuck.
I think Apple should do a whole lot more of this, that should put them out of their 'misery' a bit faster, no more need to worry about people 'copying' their rounded rectangles either. Good riddance.
Maybe someone, somewhere will make the mistake of having an underpaid kid make copies of parts of the agreement for them? Some of the politicians involved seem stupid enough to do something like that.
"You see, it turned out that American publishers realized that there was a benefit to being the first to print a foreign author, because those who got to market first tended to dominate the market."
Apparently publishers back then were smarter then they are now, at least back then they understood the customers want the newest of the new and that they want it yesterday. Quite different from the current release window and 'not available in your area' crap |D
Does she really think getting the money to buy a semi-decent computer and get an internet connection is anywhere near the cost of studying at Princeton? Maybe she should do an online math course.
I WILL NOT contribute a single penny to a demonic company like Apple. And last time I tried to buy MP3's from Amazon UK I got the well known 'this service is not available in your area'. You can stick it BOB.
Same here. One of the reasons I never buy PC games anymore is that some of them stopped working completely due to severed connections/incompatibility with newer PCs. I don't see this happening to my old N64, Gamecube, PS2 or GameBoy/DS games, as long as you don't break your game or console they'll work for all eternity. These new consoles are no better than the PC stuff I came to hate so much.
