This is true, although in this case David Gerrold isn't a new writer. He has been producing books and writing shows since the 70s. (Ever seen The Trouble with Tribbles on the original Star Trek? That was his.) So yeah it is good to see new people coming in that get this but it's also good to see people who have been around for a while get it too. They are the ones in a position now who might be listened too. (Now if he would only tell the publishers.)
no he wont. when it fails he will blame the government for not protecting the industry, the other news agencies for their sloppy but free media, and the people for not knowing "real" news and the proper cost of it.
exactly. A buddy of mine introduced me to it and I played for months without buying anything and had a grand time of it. Recently they ran some sales on the points so I bought them to unlock some of the other quests and was glad to pay them.
I keep telling people, we aren't a two party system anymore, we are a multi-denominational party. In other words, what denominations are you willing to pay me to go your way.
I love these kinds of lines in these patent: While the invention has been described in accordance 5 with what is presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiment, but on the contrary, is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements included within the spirit and scope :o of the appended claims.
So basically this is saying: "If we didn't write the specifics broad enough to cover all possibilities of us getting paid, then we want to make sure we cover any loopholes that mights in any way have anything to do with the possibility of what we are discussing, so that we get paid."
Actually, in a warped way it makes sense (or at least I can see where it would make sense to them:)
Ok, the plan. We sue all those piratey people and spend lots of money on lobbies to get the governments to help. (oh sorry authors, we can pay as much cause we are spending to "protect your rights!")
Now, lets take the money we win and ue that as bonuses for a good job. (oh sorry artists, this money wasn't part of your contract.)
Once piracy is gone, then we force people to only buy CDs and we can go back to the way it was.
Profit!
(At least this is the only explanation I could come up with, then again they could all just be effing clueless)
Not to mention this isn't about putting it up to EVERYONE's debate. Taking ACTA as an example, leaving out the groups that have customer interests at heart while including only the industry seems pretty closed. How about a little more balance and he can still make the decisions but be open about it and the process.
check out this line: Artists who have released product since 2001 will not appear on this list. Since the SoundExchange Board elected not to release those funds, and to give artists more time to register for their royalties, the list has not been updated.
Since 2001? Heck the list they are providing is still from 2006. Way to be on top of things.
Totally agree - and I agree with Mike that it shouldn't be hidden. The old school journalists remind me of my boss, who is an old school engineer. He chastises people for using pens and not pencils because he says the pen is an arrogant tool and it implies that you don't make mistakes. I replied that I use a pen so that if I make a mistake, I have to line it out and correct it NOT erase it and hide it. This way, I try to take extra care not to make the mistake but own up to it if I do. He has never bothered me about my pens since.
or why are you pulling me over when that guy over there just killed someone and you are letting him go.
Remember, we are talking drugs that could save or prolong lives here. If you take medical advice from a blogger, well then you get what you paid for. However, if you take medical advice from your doctor its a different story. Considering what we pay in premiums plus co-pays, I don't think its above and beyond to hope we would get truthful info and that somebody was watching for that.
and yet they backed down immediately
from the article: "The play has toured across Europe and has never had any problems before. But suddenly Paul Simon has heard about the lay, and does not want his music being used, Universal claim.
I then wrote a letter to Paul Simon and asked if this really was his opinion, and receive a swift response from his representative Eddie Simon that something must be array here. Universal do not represent Paul Simon in contractual agreements with theatres, he explained. Universal then retracted their demand and said that there were no longer any objections" Also, if you read the article, this wasn't a one shot "we are going to sue unless you quit" so the theater quit. The theater tried to work with them and Universal ignored them

"well, i'd say newspaper, but apparently they don't do a huge amount of fact checking lately either."
Then again, a "newspaper" would only write a retraction if they got caught, and then on some back page in small type, where as Mike and crew usually do it right on the article or in a follow up on the main page/feed.
I wonder if the wines are going to be partially donated by the winery due to the publicity or if the wine makers are going to demand multiple payments from the writers, photographers, printers, producers, binders, typesetters, word processing developers, computer hardware manufacturers, and paper mills that were used in producing the book on behalf of all the hard working grape pickers.
