There's a reason why kids dont have rights. Its a parents job to "harass" the child. Its called parenting. Too bad Judge Judy wasnt presiding. This would have been a non issue.
Welcome to Louisiana politics...and yeah, this is about par for the course. This is the same legislature that brought in Hurricane Chris to perform in front of the Louisiana house of representatives...check out the video, the lady in the green dress is his aunt from what I understand. It was a new low for Louisiana.
I think the university network admins are probably getting an ear full, but the professors actions are a separate issue. I still cant decided if what he did is even illegal.
"a webpage that sent a new page request to the UC president's website every one to six seconds."
AND
"A separate function automatically sent 404 queries to the server."
AND
"A "spawn" feature allowed participants to run additional pages in another window, multiplying the strain on the targeted website."
...will potentially bite him in the ass. Its not like he asked people to repeatedly visit the university presidents website. He created an automated method for increasing traffic to the website. Now, can he be held responsible for creating a tool that other people decided to use? Can this even be considered a DDoS "attack" since by definition a DDoS attack is performed by centrally controlled compromised systems? I think the most important aspect of all of this is that it was automated.
Come on people, this man is obviously losing a great deal of revenue due to illegal downloads of his film. He can't even afford to hire a PR rep to tell him his emails are freakin psycho!
Thanks Mike...I will certainly boycott this film and anything else produced by him.
oops...thats what I get for reading too many things at the same time. This is an interesting issue after all....I'm not sure what to think...other than the guy is a jackleg.
He's guilty. The law is overly broad, but he wasn't just discussing a topic. He engaged in giving advice and encouragement, which may be protected speech in the states, but it looks like he's guilty under Canadian law.
Just bought a five year old house. It was wired with Cat-5, but the dmarc was never installed, so the previous owner didnt have a land line either. I just replaced the telephone wall plates with cat-5 plates, terminated the other ends and plugged them into a switch.
You are referring to annualcreditreport.com, which will provide you with those free reports. Freecreditreport.com used to give you free credit reports but more importantly, they gave you a free credit score too (which all three reporting agencies charge for). I signed up with freecreditreport.com to get the free score. You have to provide a credit card but if you cancel within 30 days, there is no charge. When I called to cancel, the representative attempted to use tactics to get me to change my mind, but I simply told her "I am at work and dont have time to discuss my reasons for cancelling, please just do it." And that was it.
OnLive looks pretty amazing. It's kinda like Hulu for video games, but I think it will be quite a while before consoles fade away since they are now also used as media extenders/servers. As long as more features and capabilities are added, I see their lifespan increasing. Its hard to beat popping in a disk and playing a game as soon as it loads..no internet connection required to just play the game ...compare that to PC games with installation and compatibility issues that may arise.
I agree with comment #19. My daily commute is 60 miles one way. I see a lot of bad driving and it is almost always due to some jackleg with a phone stuck to his/her head. I didnt think much about cell phone driving until I began to notice that almost all of the swerving, drifting into another lane or onto the shoulder, and inconsistent speed is due to cell phone usage while driving. This is what I observe on a daily basis...car in front of me begins to drift from one side of the lane to the other, this indicates dialing a number or looking up a contact, then the car begins to slow down, this indicates the conversation is beginning to take more of the drivers attention and now I have to turn off my cruise control, then the car begins to speed up again once the call is over and the process starts over again. I see this happen multiple times a day and even with truckers. It has caused me to rethink the whole cell phone driving problem and now I completely avoid using my phone while driving. I am not so sure that passing laws to deal with this problem is the answer. I know many people that can multitask very well..pilots come to mind...but for Suzie homemaker and Joe the drywall guy...hang up the damn phone and drive bitches...
Thats what Im talking about...its open season on any common technology. After reading this, I've started the patent application process for stranded metal fibers. Once this goes through Im going to sue everyone that makes any type of wire. Damn Im gonna be rich!! It's like a modern day gold rush. Patent and sue.

Guilty of two counts of aiding suicide.
