I agree that people deserve to earn an income for their work. Where your analogy breaks down is that we are not still paying the farmer's descendants fifty years after his death for those crops.
That someone wants or needs to behave in an uncivilized manner isn't acceptable in a three year old. It also should not be acceptable or an excuse for someone old enough to know how to use a keyboard.
As for being "relatively harmless", there have been articles here and news reports elsewhere how internet harassment has had devastating results. We have a duty as members of a society to treat each other with respect even and especially when we disagree with each other,
In this day in age with recording devices everywhere and the footprints we leave on the net, anonymity for the most part is an illusion, Even if that wasn't the case being rude, disruptive, or threatening just because you think no one will know who you are is not the mark of a civilized person.
That's because ONLY government officials were injured. These clowns (no offense meant to clowns) only care about themselves and their cronies, The rest of us they only care about at election time.
Even if the fine had been lets say a million dollars a day for each person violated it would be meaningless. The real problem is that the people who made this decision are not being held accountable or punished in any way, so there is no disincentive for them not to do it again and again and ...
You know water is a pretty sable compound, so every time you have a glass of water some of those molecules were once dinosaur piss. Which is why I find expiration dates on bottled water so funny.
Atomic weights are constant for each isotope of each element. several elements (Sodium and Gold for example) have a single stable isotope so no matter where your sample comes from the average weight of the atoms is the same.
The article is talking about in different parts of the world the ratio of isotopes for a particular atom vary. By knowing where a particular average weight of an atom occurs, you can measure an unknown sample to get an idea of where it came from.
Re: Atomic weight of composites !! not what the periodic table is for..
The example you use U235 and U238 are both Uranium isotopes. U238 has three more neutrons than U235 not protons. The largest atom yet observed has 118 protons and only a few of those have been created in particle accelerators.
For more information on atomic structure you might what to check out the video on youtube "Protons neutrons, electrons and isotopes" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEX2aGpIDBY.
re:Have you noticed that your dish detergent is phosphate-free now?
This line in the article stuck out at me.
""I'm angry at the people who decided that phosphate was growing algae. I'm not sure that I believe that," Wright adds."
Ms. Wright, people didn't decide phosphate was growing algae, they observed it and tested it to make sure that was the reason. It's called science and just because your life was inconvenienced doesn't make it wrong.
Isn't WikiLeaks next leak supposed to be about the financial industry? If that's the case it's understandable why these companies are trying to cut off its funding. Of course that doesn't make it correct, just understandable that their protecting their own interest while faining moral indignation.
Governments routinely leak secret information when it's to their advantage. During the last Bush administration they leaked the name of an active CIA agent to Robert Novak. While this was a treasonable offense no one except Scooter Libby (and he only got his hand slapped) was punished.
We Americans live in a Democracy and that only works when the government is transparent. Before anyone gets carried away, I know that there is some information that needs to be kept secret. However; it's a lot harder to keep the important stuff secret when you try to make everything secret.
I stopped reading comics years ago, not because of pirating, but because the publishers decided the readers were mindless cash cows. It was the multiple covers, limited issues, and constant reboots that drove me away.

They also have a reserved parking lot at the front of Washington National Airport. After all it's only fair that our public "servants" get treated better that their bosses.
We need to ban the following now; cameras, printing presses, motion pictures, and anything else that can be used to exploit the children. Only be eliminating these demon technologies can we get the politicians to stop grandstanding and work on real problems.
