Re: Re: Re: I know it's not a popular view here, but...
Take a second look at the main article. You point to the problem yourself "No Flash, iDevices, Silverlight" the problem with adding DRM to HTML5 is that it starts out as a separate component that will likely not be implemented on all platforms.
As a web designer you should know full well what a pain in the ass it is to code for different clients (browsers) that implement things differently, or in some instances do not even offer support for what you as a web designer want to do.
So if you have an insane boss that insists that you code for all possible clients (even for the 80 year old guy using win95) you end up with a web page that looks like an early 90's homepage with flaming skulls as your banners.
Adding DRM to HTML5 should be resisted on this basis alone.
People are still so primitive and paranoid that they think like the early near caveman civilizations that taking a picture with a camera will capture your soul?
On the same note I'm sure that Google Glasses will turn you into a Cyborg.
My family computer we all affectionately call it FrankenPuter because I put it together from the parts of other computers.
But, I mean who wouldn't want an over grown cow with bolts in its neck?
When Google debuted their social network they did so by invite only -- implying that you had to be a part of some elite club that knew someone to join a social network.
In an attempt to pretend that a certain popular social network did not already exist.
The arguments Lanier makes remind me of an old statistical correlation fallacy: If we plot on a graph the frequency of ice cream sales to the frequency of rapes over time we see that ice cream sales cause rape because as the frequency of rape goes up so do ice cream sales. These graphs match so the conclusion is of course: ice cream sales cause rape.
Reality is that the frequency of rape increases as the weather gets warmer and not surprisingly ice cream sales do as well. Correlation does not prove causality.
Laniers claims are even more convoluted. Perhaps he wrote this during a full moon so he could claim lunacy when confronted with the facts.
That is right. Class B misdemeanor for speeding.
Same class of crime if you beat your dog to death. Just as serious.
In other words if an officer doesnt like you he can arrest you and incarcerate you for speeding because in Utah speeding is a crime.
Wake up America, you are One Nation Under Arrest.

I live in Utah where 1-800-CONTACTS is based. I have some software developer friends who work at 1-800-CONTACTS. The last time I spoke with them they were whining that to send people lenses or glasses they needed a prescription.

Re: Have enough power and wealth and the rules no longer apply.
Yes in the dark ages things were much more simple.
There was basically a caste system where a middle class did not exist.
From my point of view as an American that realizes that America is no longer a representative republic, and is now an oligarchy; I contend that we are headed back into the dark ages again with monarchs, serfs and peasants.
Why are we suprised? Team Prenda so far hasn't so much as had their backsides spanked. They are hiding behind the 5th right now.
So why not keep on making money the same way they have been? Just because they are remaining silent to not incriminate themselves doesn't mean they are doing anything criminal. Right???
The burden of proof absolutely should be put on the accuser and not so much the accused. Otherwise you have nonsense like what Veho experienced.
In England when you sue you think twice before litigation and make sure you have your facts right and a good chance of winning or it is expensive for the plaintiff to proceed should you lose. So crap like Veho does not happen in England.
Veho is not an isolated case and the broken justice system is one of the reasons patent trolls are running rampant.
For those horses and humans that are too stupid to know how to use a search engine to find out how a search engine auto-complete works here's a decent link for you (assuming you know how hypertext links work):
No President of the United States is authorized to repeal parts of legislation passed by Congress. He may veto the whole legislation, but then Congress can override his veto if they have enough votes. Nevertheless, every President takes an oath to faithfully execute the laws that have been passed and sustained not just the ones he happens to agree with.
If laws passed by the elected representatives of the people can be simply over-ruled unilaterally by whoever is in the White House, then we are no longer a free people, choosing what laws we want to live under.
When a President can ignore the plain language of duly passed laws, and substitute his own executive orders, then we no longer have "a government of laws, and not of men" but a President ruling by decree, like the dictator in some banana republic.
