We all judge. Period. We judge on our experiences and thus our formed opinions. They are individual and thus judge. Just like you judge with your comment.
As an individual you can do nothing but judge when you offer an opinion. My opinion is just that, my judgement on their opinion. Just as is yours.
I agree!!!! Property is not just limited to actual land. Would you be mad if you bought chicken and then found out that the right only extended to baking it, but frying was not allowed? Same thing when it comes to buying a song. Buy it but you are only allowed to use it this way, not that way.
I agree. No names but I public domain-ed my pretty successful songs (sort of) over 27 years ago. I declined the renewal for just that reason. As a 7-10 year old I was acclaimed as a vocal prodigy and recorded renditions of several non-copyrighted songs. Made me enough to pay for college. But when I hit the age where I could not reproduce them I gave up all rights to those versions because I understood that nothing would make them valuable again. I wanted them to be saved for everyone. Review them good or bad. But just save them for everyone to hear.
I said then that I would never do anything with Blockbuster again because they caved and paid the ransom to save their business (not). And I have not. I will never rent, buy or support in anyway Blockbuster.
I thought then that Redbox and another kiosk style service should have fought harder. But I also think now that there should be some kind of lawsuit against the cabal.
My thought is simple provide us with what we want or go away. Please just die!
Just like most people can't appreciate the subtle differences in a well done painting. They don't hear the subtle differences between analog and digital audio. They don't hear the depth of tone, the variances in notes.
I do and I am well aware of the difference. I love the warm and engrossing tones I hear from a vinyl record. But I hear less of a difference than I heard years ago. Hearing is always the first to go and I lament the loss. I paid over $3800 for a stereo and speakers with THD of less than .025%. I know sounds. There will never be a medium that can compare to vinyl but... Most people don't know any different unless they hear it in a venue that provides true acoustics.
If everybody would realize that if I buy something, anything I own it. Those ownership rights do not die ever, even with my own death. Property rights are important in so many ways, but we ignore them to often.
When I buy a computer I own it, but if I buy software to run on that computer I (in fact) am only renting that software.
Soft goods like software, DRM'ed music or games are only mine until they are blocked or broken by some new update to protect me.
Property rights need to be the focus. If I buy a song should I not be able to do whatever I want with it? Play it on any device I want? If I buy software should I not be able to resell it or transfer ownership?
I think it is way too funny to hear about the MPAA/RIAA complaining about unauthorized music via download. When the easiest way to get music to share is via their preferred method. CD's. I can copy a CD a million times.
I am an audiophile going back over 20 years. I love vinyl, but as you age those subtle differences are harder and harder to hear. So I bet that good old Neil could be tested and he would not be able to hear the difference between a high bit rate MP3 and vinyl.
The fact is that very few people today have ever really heard good full sound music and they don't know enough to care. So they enjoy the music they hear and then enjoy even more when they hear it live. Might be the reason more and more bands are making more money from live concerts.
Experience is not black and white. MP3's are not perfectly white or black they are just a bit gray.
It's refreshing to see people are supporting the arts without having to use tax payer dollars to do so and still get good stuff out.
I like this model so much better than having my money taken from me every payday and then the politicians decide where the money goes. I can pick and choose what movies I want to fund.

I only wish you could feel the true pain that you so readily compare to the less than violent act of copying.

Piracy would not be needed...
