Perhaps if those in the robes were less detached from reality and had to deal with any of the nightmare scenarios regular people have to face they might have different opinions.
It makes you feel sympathetic towards Marie Antoinette. She too lived in a bubble, never seeing the outside of Versaille. So, when she heard the peasants were starving for lack of bread, it was perfectly sensible for her to suggest, "Let them eat cake." Just imagine that woman being forced to submit to the guillotine. It must have seemed a horrible travesty to her.
I will readily admit that you're not stupid and do have qualities which I admire, but often you sound like a seventeen year old kid who thinks he's immortal and omniscient. Here, you sound like that kid poo-pooing the old fogie with a Winchester because you've got an M-16, which is clearly superior. Except, that's stupid.
If you'd learned to use mirrors, you'd know that you're always checking mirrors, cycling through them one after another, and even when you're not looking at them, you're still using your peripheral vision to note movement or changes happening in them. Doing that, there are no void areas. No children are going to be able to sneak up on you so you smush them when you back up. I also know where my bumpers are and where the traffic is and where traffic could possibly appear from. Once you get that overall picture it's easy to keep it updated. I don't need to add forty-thousand dollars to the price of the vehicle for an in-car CCTV system which attempts badly to replace that.
FWIW, I've never bent a fender or bumper hitting anyone, and the only scratches on my vehicles have come from assholes keying the paint (I don't worry about it).
I'll just put you down as the average java programmer who thinks the jvm is everything you need to care about, and deal with your broken hardware when you call me to tell me it's "acting up" and you've not a clue what could possibly be wrong.
"Here's a nickel, kid. Buy yourself a better computer."
Well, I beg your pardon! I'd no idea god in all its glory was listening in. What a ridiculously arrogant thing to say. If you were my boss or a client, you wouldn't be seeing me tomorrow. You've already decided it's your way or the highway. Okay, g'bye!
I suspect it is highly debatable whether reversing cameras are demonstrably superior to mirrors. *Perhaps*, they may be better or easier for Joe Sixpack in too much of a hurry to master the esoteric skill of using mirrors, or who's foolish enough to buy a vehicle with lousy window visibility. I would not own such a vehicle. Nor do I think the cost of such a system is anywhere near justifiable. YMMV. *I* can understand that. It's sad that you can't. End of debate.
Why be obedient to someone else telling you what to do.
Or, just don't go if you're not welcomed, which you aren't with your cell phone.
"Problem" solved.
Problem created. You're in the company of thousands of others who've paid their hard earned bucks for the best entertainment experience Chappelle can offer you, and you think it's okay to interrupt everyone else's enjoyment of it? Fuck you, asshole. Stay home, or find something else to do.
It also seems inherently dangerous in the age of seemingly endless mass shootings to disrupt all cell phone communications in an entire venue, which is why the FCC has historically banned outright cell phone signal blocking ...
Speaking just for myself, that seems quite the heavy-handed response. How many mass shootings have you experienced in person lately? I've never been anywhere near one, nor do I know anyone who has. I'm suspicious that the cell phone industry "regulatory captured" the FCC into forcing that ban as it might otherwise interfere with their profits.
If I were an entertainer like Chappelle, I'd find a way to get my hands on a Stingray which overpowers other cellphone towers, then lock the Stingray down to not provide outside connectivity. I'd also upfront warn all invitees I'd be doing this. If you don't like it, you're not welcome. Many other fans very much do resent your cell phones interrupting performances. If you can't be bothered to keep your dog on a leash, it's not welcome and neither are you. Substitute "squalling babies", "drunken boyfriends" or whatever you prefer for "dog."
From that page, which mentions that started in 1924:
In 1921 a precursor organisation was founded by Osram, the "Internationale Glühlampen Preisvereinigung". When Philips and other manufacturers were entering the American market, General Electric reacted by setting up the "International General Electric Company" in Paris.
Because I read what you Googled, and you should have too. :-) I'd have to say the person you replied to was correct. I'd also have to say there were a lot of dirty players in the market and it goes back a long time. This latest dirtbag move on the part of Philips is just in keeping with that tradition. You'd think if "market forces" were anything worth relying on, all these jerks would've crashed and burned decades ago. Ergo, free market? Chyaa, right!
... but refuses to let you know how many people it kills?
Close, but more like "doesn't care and can't be bothered to let you know how many people it kills." After all, if they weren't doing anything wrong, they wouldn't have needed a bullet, now would they? Sheesh, civilians!
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they learned the lesson just about as well as the two pigs that now know they can relax and build crappy houses because their brother will take care of them when something bad happens.
Just make crap quality knockoffs for a tenth of the price that sell for half what the "Market Leader" sells theirs for and the suckers at Walmart will wind up buying five of them as they burn out via planned obsolescence and manufacturing defects. They're very popular in the "don't want it" Xmas present recycling market and thrift stores, not to mention landfills.
They invented Microchannel architecture in an attempt to grab the market back from their many competitors. Very few fell for that ridiculous idea (licensing priced it beyond its worth) and it died in obscurity. They've pretty much since abandoned the market concentrating instead on mainframes, services, and Imaginary Property among other things.
I thought they were. Whether they've even read it or know what's in it is a valid question. Maybe the PBAs have managed to bargain that requirement away, or Congress (or the courts) passed a LEO exception. It wouldn't surprise me nowadays.
Glad I don't live there, and sadly I'll never set foot there again. You have my sympathies, now go and fix it, damnit! Your firemen have become arsonists (Fahrenheit 451).
National Socialist = Right wing socialism Democratic Socialist = Left wing socialism
No.
National Socialist = Our country and its people are better than other countries and their (so-called) people who are demonstrably inferior lifeforms who can't be trusted and need to be subjugated else they'll steal all our stuff and probably hurt us. You can trust our gov't to protect you from them because we're your gov't and we care about you and we know what's right. Honest! Trust us, or we'll kill you.
Democratic Socialism = "We The People ..." rule by popular vote electing representatives to form a gov't limited to specific defined functions and limits.
NS is stupid and in most cases leads to corruption enriching the rulers, tyrannical overreach and even genocide by its gov't over those ruled.
DS may eventually be found to be workable, if only we can figure out how to make that "limited to specific defined functions and limits" work, which we're at present nowhere near solving despite the thousands of years we've worked on it.
Going by your regular attempts to bash any form of authority ...
Versus your regular attempts to denigrate any reports of abuse of authority, I'd say TD's credibility far outstrips yours. Compare the FBI's reporting system results to the Guardian's reporting system results, and anyone will conclude the former is a fatally flawed and worthless tool except for those with something to hide. You don't care that mass murder is happening on a grand scale and the perpetrators are evading punishment and even recognition by policy.
Quisling, you should be ashamed of yourself. "My country, right or wrong" was good enough for unquestioning, ignorant, flag-waving hardhats, but not for anyone who swears allegiance to the Constitution, as every officer of the law does upon taking the job.
"Public Domain" means in the domain of the public and not "burdened" by copyright. Why do we even need to talk about this case giving credence to someone who's trying to steal something from the public domain, making it copyrighted by them? There should be no question as to what's going on here. That person is wrong if they think they can misappropriate and lock up something against the wishes of the public, its rightful owners.
"Public Domain" means fuck off and don't even try it. They should be charged with attempted theft for it.
That the authorities still persecute marijuana possession maybe? I'm happy to live in a place where the cops have pretty much seen the light. They'll confiscate it if they find any on you, but nobody gets busted for possession around here any more. Every day just walking down the street, I can smell three people walking or driving by who're smoking it.
Weed should never have been made illegal. It was a foolish thing to do, and continuing to persecute users is ridiculous. We learned this lesson in Prohibition, or most everybody with any sense did. The cure was worse than the disease. It was never going to stop it, and trying to just ruins lives needlessly.
You actually still believe in hell? How about the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, zombies, dragons, elves, ogres, and vampires? You really are a fool. Those are fairy tales invented to scare kids into eating their vegetables. They're not things which should concern adults. Grow up.
Tim Cushing, one of Techdirt's many armchair constitutional experts.
Says one of TD's many peanut gallery trolls. I notice you offer nothing of substance to add for discussion, just rolling by and spitting in the face of those giving you their efforts for free. You are truly a superior life form, on some planet out there but not this one.
Really, wtf did your effort add to the sum of anything, other than making yourself look like an ingrate fool?
