"Metadata" is just the government's excuse that 'it's just useless information' but if they're using the excuse 'if you're not doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to hide'. But, when you turn that argument around, the government has a lot to be concerned with if they're hiding everything in secret around the data they collect?
If the data is meaningless, then why waste our taxdollars collecting it?
Why is The Patriot Act passed by congress anyway? In my opinion, The Patriot Act should be a required vote put forward to all Americans. Does congress actually think that Americans should support the The Patriot Act if it were allowed to be voted on in this manner?
Here's a thought: the child was mad at the family member who unplugged his video game experience, so he retaliated. Has nothing to do with video games, only for interrupting his experience.
The greater problem is that the Obama Administration has always said that they wouldn't use the information gathered from such surveilance as authorized under The Patriot Act for going after Americans for every crime under the sun.
The fact is, they are doing just that and violating the constitution, violating due process and violating the very same Federal law that prohibits using this data in this way.
It's nice the very government that our tax dollars are being used to fund are also being used to violate the very rights that we are all guaranteed under the constitution.
I guess we live in a communist country after all, with a single dictator at the helm.
"He was keen to protect the Guardian's freedom to publish". WOW! Really? How can you claim to protect the media's freedom to publish when you order them to destroy documents that do NOT endanger national security of anyone.
Is the UK really concerned that Al Qaeda could reveal the existence of another top secret NSA spying program? The UK really needs to seriously think things through before they act on impulse.
The British government taking orders from their masters in the U.S. Government? lols Clegg and Cameron are both idiots.
I wish the federal government would send me a FISA order requesting the personal information on my members because not only would I refuse to hand that info over but I would blab my mouth to every TV reports and print journalist that I could find.
I simply do not believe in gag orders issued by secret courts who rubber stamp subpoenas.
Do I really have to say it? The federal government certainly has a lot of chutzpah for complaining about Lavabit shutting down rather than cooperate with secret subpoenas issued by a secret court for secret spying.
Not even the federal government has the right to force a business, company, corporation or website to continue operating simply because they are going to lose the right to spy on Americans.
Good grief, has the federal government been taken over by Scooby Doo?
Go ahead, President Obama, tell us again how there is oversight with the FISA courts. There is no oversight because there is no opposing attorney to question the government attorney over his statements.
To be honest about it, I find most of these incidents of citizens filming these police officers to be nothing more than morons in the first place.
I always seem to notice that these idiot people filming these cops are the ones looking to instigate a confrontation for no better than reason than to provide a deliberate nuisance factor to the police.
Tim Cushing leaves a very important factor out of his article. If police officers would stop being antagonistic against people who film them in public then maybe the public would start to be more grateful to these officers.
Here in Flint Michigan, our police officers are actually very respectful of the residents in our city. I'm sure there are real jerks with cameras who really are acting like jerks but that road goes both ways. Police officers need to act professionally and actually thank citizens for being out there, keeping these officers honest.
When I see a police officer acting like a thug, it just tells me that the officer acting in such a way is corrupt and up to no good.
The thing that bothers me about police officers harassing Americans who are recording them is why are they so against this? Surely if there are bad police officers, that the rest of the police force would want them removed from employment.
Not only that, but these police officers are acting like they are personally liable for the lawsuits when those lawsuits and/or settlements are paid out by the city in which they are employed.
Why doesn't Bloomberg just install CCTVs in every home, perform random home searches, after all, he keeps pretending that 'stop and frisk' actually prevents crime. Just place the entire state of New York under Police Rule.
Bloomberg fails to grasp the notion that randomly stopping citizens just because "Stop and Frisk" is a "legal" law doesn't mean that it's constitutional. This law is as racist as you can get because it targets minorities more often than it targets white people.

I'd like to see the DEA explaining to the courts when they prosecute a drug case as to which search warrant they used to stop such a truck.
