I really think the time has come for a total overhaul of the government systems. These things used to make perfect sense. You elect an official and they take care of coming up with the needed laws. For court you just get a jury of people from the general population.
The issue is that this system was setup back when about the most complex job out there was that of a doctor and the doctors were still using blood letting. It was not hard for someone with no prior experience farming to help settle arguments between two farmers.
The problems we are running into now though you cannot expect someone to come in off the street and understand. We are asking these elected people to be experts in advanced economics, pharmaceuticals, biology, and technology. It is just not possible for anyone to understand all these issues to the level required for them to effectively regulate.
I agree that kids need to just get over being bullied and get thinker skin in most cases. The issue I see here though is that this is not someone calling you names. They set up a fake facebook account. In this day and age a fake facebook account in your name could be VERY damaging.
Being picked on in school is one thing. Having people do something that could cause you to not get jobs in the future and so on is a lot more than simple teasing.
I actually kind of find myself agreeing. The way the social media is today, someone making a fake account with your name could cause you untold amounts of trouble. This case was a kid being a brat, but it sets a president for future that stealing someones identity should not be tolerated.
No one has said that you didn't have the right to say that. In fact most people here will fight for your right to say anything you want to say. That is the joy of freedom of speech. On the other hand you have to accept that we also can tell you that we don't care if you think his song is stupid.
Ahh, but think of all the great things we would be without if people didn't come up with such terrible ideas. We would miss out on the fun of the Darwin awards for example.
Really I think you will find that we long ago hit the point that everyone is a criminal. There are so many laws on the books these day, many of them very complicated and more still that are overly broad. Everyone breaks some law of some kind on a regular basis.
If you drive then I am willing to bet at some time you have exceeded the speed limit, or failed to fully stop at stop sign, maybe forgot your blinkers when turning, or how about your headlights last time it was foggy?
That is just examples from one area of life. It has become so easy to break the law that most of us do so all the time without thinking about it.
Of course what is really funny is that I can see kicking people of the internet greatly increasing piracy. You see, I use services like netflix and pandora but if they kick me off the internet then I can't use these services.
Of course if you killed my home internet I COULD STILL PIRATE movies and music by going to McDonnalds and downloading them while getting lunch. So instead of stopping the problem you will have made it so I would pirate everything instead of just a few things.
Well it is funny you should mention a war on personal computers. I don't know how many people are really paying any attention to what is going on in the computer world. Many people are adopting tablets and slowly desktop PCs are becoming less a part of life.
The issue here is that a lot of these tablets have built in DRM. My android phone every time I moved files to it would do a scan to see if I had any unlicensed music or movies and would flag anything that it did not like. So basically as we move forward in technology if we are not careful then Hollywood will indeed win by affecting the way the new systems are built. They will work DRM into the OS and as things go forward probably work it directly into the hardware.
You just don't seem to understand how this system operates. They can't point out that he was a crazy Christian terrorist because that would not fit into their agenda. If it comes out that all religions end up with a few crazies then suddenly their campaign to make Muslims look like bad guys will fail.
All you have to do is look through history to see that every large group ends up with few crazy people. It is just how things work.
Hate to break it to you but a LOT of video game sales are to people in their 20s. I have paid for a lot more games than my parents ever bought me. Why do you think there are so many mature games?
You realize that the whole fresh tomato thing does not really mean anything. That is like me asking someone if they have experienced the joy of becoming a level 120 wizard and if they haven't then they are not really living. Eating a tomato has just as much relevance as being a high level wizard.
Point is that life styles change. Each generation does things their own way. This is because there is no right or wrong way to live. There are just a lot of idiots who seem to think their way is the only "right" way and they want to force it on the rest of us.
I really want to know what the patent number is for the kitten dispenser. I would love to read the full patent to figure out what the heck that thing is.
In fact if someone wanted I would even be willing to sit down myself and write up instructions on how to put it together and what parts I used. I sadly don't know of any place to get the parts for free, but the plans on how to make an exact COPY (you know, like how people COPY music and movies) I would be happy to hand out. I would even include pictures.
I personally think my computer is awesome and if someone COPIED my computer and gave it away for free I would personally think that rocked. I bet there would be a lot of really happy people too. It takes a little bit more care than average computer but it is nice.
What I hate is that when you boycott these morons they just add that into the "money lost to piracy" column and move on. They are too blind to see that they are loosing more money to upset customers than to piracy.
Well you see that is their goal. They draw a line and say not to cross it so you stay on your side but come right up to the line. They then attack you for being near the line saying your evil and just want to cross the line.
If you then say ok well I will just stay back here away from that silly line they sneak up and say, "Ahh see we were right and sense your not using this area anyways we are going to move the line over to right beside you."
They then repeat this process over and over and over until there is nothing left for them to take.
The chart is not as misleading as you might think. Yes the points you make are good ones. The costs of various things have come down and they don't have the need to try and expand into new areas like they used to.
On the other side they are getting more customers and now spending less on equipment. This means their profits are climbing steeply because they are no longer innovating to compete in the market. The towers are built and the cost of the tech is down, so imagine where we would be if they had continued to invest in innovation? We very well could have 4G nation wide and their network would be able to handle all the data without the stupid "data caps"
I think it is about time for laws to be passed saying courts cannot rule on anything until it is proven those running the court actually understand whats going on. The court systems are old and outdated.
Long gone are the days that court cases were simply two farmers fighting over who owns a cow. The cases now are complicated and deal with many topics we cannot expect all judges to understand. Judges simply cannot be computer experts, chemists, biologists, engineers, and pharmaceutical experts.
The system need to be updated to account for the nature of modern cases.
Once again I find someone challenging my firm conviction that people should have freedom of speech.
The conclusion I have come to once again? I will still fight for your right to say things such as that, but along with that I also fight for the right to say, Please do us all a favor and go get sterilized. None of us want any more of your genes contaminating the gene pool.
