They're pushing for more
I have read elsewhere that Reid is looking to push some language into the bill that indeed are SOPA-like.
A recent bill in the House – the Promoting and Enhancing Cybersecurity and Information Sharing Effectiveness Act of 2011 or PrECISE Act — also empowers DHS in the event of a cyberattack, but the bill has been criticized by Reid as not giving the agency enough power. PrECISE focuses on strengthening the information sharing component between private corporations and DHS by allowing a limited amount of information to be shared between the two.
Reid favors an approach that would expand DHS authority beyond currently regulated “critical infrastructure,” such as utilities and financial institutions, to also include Internet service providers and private networks.

Re:
Despite all the movies you may have seen it is not okay for police to shoot people in the back while trying to escape. In this case, if she wanted to detain the guy, she should have told him she was arresting him and for what reason, if he attempted escape then she should have called for backup, followed the guy, and waited to detain him with others helping. At any point, if the dude attempts to cause harm to officers, then the tase may be used.

Re: Seems we need more censorship!
Yes. I read it as: New media is bad because corrupt crony capitalists/corporations/governments/dictators can't filter their deeds out of the information. Now that the sheep know the truth, they will rise up against us (civil society).

3 - They are a firehose. Without the filtering and selection of hollywood or similar, would you really know what movies to download and which ones not to?
The internet doesn't need middlemen to do this. With such wide distribution, somebody...somewhere will watch/listen/look and review it. If it impresses them they will use the powerful social networking tools on the internet to get their friends to check it out. A lot of art can be extremely niche oriented. It is much easier to find niche content on the internet...you would never get it from the legacy media nitwits. And now being a niche artist can actually be profitable when "the world is your oyster." If an artist has talent, he will be found and make money. Sorry to say that we don't want your culture.

Yeah, but did he want to get paid before he went to school to get the training and license to do it, or did he only bill you when he actually did the work?
Ummmm...?! This Kickstarter project is headed by a guy who already has a reputation. Way to fail, AC!
Did you have to go to the farmer, and pre-pay him for your next year of milk, so that he could go out and get a cow and work to produce it?
Wow! The store paid the farmer for the milk and I am sure that they worked the contract out ahead of time.

Re:
So, the content industries could have made up some pro-SOPA/PIPA drivel and planted it on a banner on their main page for anybody who went to their site to watch a show or whatever. I bet they would rather less people know about the bill, because if anybody tried to look farther than what the content industry spoonfed them they would find out the truth.

If you are against the status quo then you are a radical and a terrorist in these dopes eyes. The disgusting display of corruption in the crony capitalist government, that the internet has helped bring to light with widespread reach, is what causes radicalism. The internet is "Power to the People!"

If Coke changes their formula without telling anyone and I buy a Coke thinking I'm getting the old formula, I'm not confused as that term is used in trademark law since I got the drink made by the Coca-Cola Company.
I bet you would be slightly pissed/confused if you bought a Coke and the contents were actually Sprite (lemon-lime, like the corollary?). But your argument here is just because these are both drinks made by the Coca-Cola Company there shouldn't be any confusion.

Yeah! Copyright is great! Just wait until 99%ers try to fight a copyright suit in court against a 1%er. The 99%ers don't have the means to fight it out in court, pay the legal costs, nor manipulate the laws. Copyright law is one way, baby! For the 1%!

So you are in the same boat as Obama and his war on the job stealing ATM machines? If the work you do can be satisfactorily automated or done by others for free (or much cheaper) in their spare time then maybe your job should be eliminated and put your "talents" to good use elsewhere.

If you use WB thinking, more people will buy the movie if they can't rent it. Where are they gonna buy it? WalMart! The WB has duped WalMart into their line of thinking.
