by treating them differently, of reminding them and not allowing them to move on, it becomes an even greater and ongoing harm.
"You'd just be better off if you didn't talk about it. No need to report it to anyone, just bury it all so you don't have to think about it and everyone can just move on and get over it."
"Every time I ever went back in the jury room and asked the jurors to write down what they thought would be an appropriate sentence -- every time – even here, in one of the most conservative parts of Iowa, where we haven't had a 'not guilty' verdict in seven or eight years..."
Am I the only person who finds that last part a little disconcerting?
I'm thinking the response of the private prison industry to a reduced per-prisoner budget would be simply to make prison conditions even more deplorable.
A private prison industry should not exist. Period.
This sounds oddly similar to the NFL teams threatening to move away from a city if they don't get a taxpayer-funded new stadium, or promising to move in if they do.
I wonder if they employ the same people to write their "Job creators!" threats/pitches to local governments.
AB negative here, and thanks for that bit of good cheer.
Well all you other blood types still have to worry about blood shortages for transfusions, while we AB folks are enjoying our "universal recipient" status. So there. That'll show ya.
All this about people who "cannot be bothered with improving their situation".. Do you not understand that's why people immigrate to the U.S., legally or otherwise, to try to improve their situation and their families', at great hardship to themselves?
The outbreaks like measles are being accused on the anti-vaccine crowds when really, its just a bunch of people from underdeveloped countries just rolling in...
Because many people, including many otherwise technically inclined people, are notoriously susceptible to tunnel vision. If it's not in their specific area of expertise, they don't want to hear about it and dismiss it as irrelevant, extraneous, needless complexity. ... Throw enough extraneous minutia at people and they will go out of their way to avoid having to deal with any more, even if it might save their lives to know it.
They're doing this while on the clock? Spending their work time sending false reports to Waze? Do they consider this part of their job duties? Because I don't think that's what we're supposed to be paying them for.
(Yes, I know, they do far worse things while on the job, but still...)
The European commission plan to be published on Wednesday would require 42 separate pieces of information on every passenger flying in and out of Europe, including their ...meal preferences...
Have you even considered that maybe they're just trying to make sure they'll have the right food ready for us when we're detained indefinitely? This is what happens when you try to pay attention to your customers' needs... Geez.
The NSA "urges" Sen. Grassley to "investigate" statements publicly made by Ms. Gupta. In what reality does that sentence make sense? How do you "investigate" opinions that were offered freely and publicly?
Well... I've investigated Vanita Gupta's statements, and I think her suggestions make a great deal of sense.

Society's reaction (or the reaction of some portion of society) may compound the harm, but...
No.

Oh hey look, you're wrong again. Vaccination rates are actually higher in (for example) Mexico than in the U.S. (See http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SH.IMM.MEAS/countries for a handy reference.)
Go vomit your racist bile someplace else.
