My guess is that the BBs had little to do with the decision to sue GoldieBlox. It was most likely some dickhead attorney at Universal who thought it would be appropriate... Someone should stick his (or her) head in the throne of the porcelain goddess and flush 3 times.
I disagree that $1.2M is too much. In my opinion, the purpose of such awards is to make well-funded organizations like AFP and Getty think twice about acting like the bandits that they are... Personally, I think they should pay another 2 or 3x in penalties.
This is the reason why I don't buy movies any more, and rarely go see them in theaters. I refuse to give these asshats a penny of my money! When they stop being such dickheads and make movies easily, and cheaply available, then maybe I'll reconsider my position.
With universal opt-in options for users, the purveyors of this cruft will have to tell you "We can provide more services if you let us spam you with ads. Here are the services you will get... Do you want? Y/N". At least then it is your choice! Now, it is mostly "opt-out". IE, no, no, no, no, no... ad-infinitum!
But you just lost all of my business FOREVER! I thought you had some pretty good gear, but this is just beyond the pale! You have just joined your colleague Sony in my "you will NEVER get another penny from me" group of companies...
"Conservatives" or "Liberals" - they are of the same stripe, and should ALL be sentenced to at least 10-20 years in prison! They have violated and subornde most egregiously their oaths of office. They have (for the most part) violated their trust, and should pay the price!
I think the reason why the DOJ and its co-conspirators want to keep this "secret" is that if it came out into the public eye, there would be a LOT of high-level government officials facing serious jail time for treason!
Just the fact that our personal communications are intercepted can, and should be, viewed as harassment and an invasion of our privacy. This is illegal, unconstitutional, and just plain obnoxious! Just "metadata" be damned! I want these asshats thrown into durance vile for their crimes!
It is obvious (to me at least) that Hammond was "shot" by the feds mostly for revealing that they were behind his obnoxious behaviors. Not an excuse for him, to be sure, but not an excuse to sentence him to 10 years!
What amazes me mostly, is that the MPAA is still the "authority" for classifying the appropriate audiences for movies in general, at least in the USA. It is time we removed that cachet from them...
An "honest politician" may be an oxymoron, but I think that one can be a politician and also an honest person - Sensenbrenner may be just that, in that he has admitted (indirectly perhaps) a mistake made for all the best (in his mind) reasons.
My cousins here in the USofA used to run the Doctor Who fan club, and licensed the rights to produce Doctor Who cruft, such as model tardis toys, sonic screw drivers, and such back a couple of decades ago for the US market. I don't know if they still hold those rights, but it could make for some interesting courtroom scenes... :-)
is that it costs too little (less profits for exploitative services/gear suppliers and overpriced consultants), and is too easy to implement (see previous)... It only requires a bit of reasonably inexpensive gear and training for police.
Clinical projection? Don't you mean clinical depression? After all, Schneier has the respect of the security industry that these two boneheads would only hope for! :-)
