google is never sweet. think of them as the world largest collection of hidden agendas. they arent inviting competition to be nice they are probably inviting it to give them cover with the government when they do something pretty evil like undercutting existing suppliers and running them out of business. google isnt sweet just cunning.
While their are cunning, on this broadband thing their motivation is fairly transparent -- sell more ads. They sell more ads through more users accessing the Internet in more ways (White spaces, 1 Gbps fiber we deploy ourselves, hamster, whatever). At this point their motivations are fairly transparent to me.
The Google I worry about is the Google ten years from now, stocked less with younger idealists and more with established executive veterans heeding the call of myopic investors. I feel like that's when the trouble starts...
Sure...they still have their long-haul network, they have small business customers, and they feed fiber to towers -- so there's money to be made there.
That really doesn't change the wireless or residential equation, or my other points about the merger being about creating a company that's too big to fail and propped up with taxpayer funds.
As a member on that site, I checked the rules and found that this was resolved around the 25th of March.
But the thread in question doesn't even begin until April 19th. The amended rules were dated March 25. Was there some earlier discussion on this in the forums?
I always thought the "those who can't do, teach" sentiment to be kind of simplistic, given corporations organically leech most of the talent from our underpaid education system (it's just especially noticeable at the admin level). To then infer the people who remain in schools (many because they actually LOVE education opposed to the pursuit of wealth) ALL collectively suffer from some deep and personal character flaw -- is a fairly significant FU to the entire profession.
I'm not a teacher, but I think I might raise my educator dukes at that statement if I were. :)
The filing alleges that the main administrator in the case may have offloaded some pictures to her home PC, and claims she's yet to turn that PC over to investigators.
But seriously, Karl's post is a bit negative. It isn't as though this commission is ONLY commissioning a video game.
To be fair, my post is ONLY about the videogame, not the additional steps being taken to tackle the deficit. And given my understanding of politicians, and the limited information available about this videogame -- my opinion stands.
When the actual game ships (if it ever does) I'll of course come back and do a follow up. :)
My thoughts are based more on my understanding of politicians and less on my understanding or dislike of Microsoft (I married a former Microsoft employee and LIKE Windows 7) if that helps provide any context.
yeah I've seen various outlets try to suggest that you could create a game that somehow harvested the public brain trust, but I'm not sure what that would net you. Seems like we should be able to afford mathematicians and economists who could do this instead of Joe and Barbara Smith of Pensacola...
But yeah -- I do see the possibilities with collective intelligence...I just doubt that's what they're doing.
They tried VERY, VERY hard to prevent that from happening. Lawsuits, weird push polls, etc. But yeah, the pricing there now is very nice -- forced local carriers to drop prices in response. Amazing that whole competition thing...
Your roommate is right. And while there are additional costs for an ISP (support, etc.) there's also a lot of ways to make additional money (behavioral redirection ads, selling clickstream data).
Google hasn't picked a city yet, but I'm guessing it will be someplace that isn't particularly well served by incumbent carriers. Maybe one of Frontier's less competitive markets like in upstate New York?

Was confusing the new offer with that Oblivion Horse armor from a year or two ago.
