Re:
Another interesting fact about copyright troll Righthaven vs.copyright troll Randazza: I just learned that Righthaven owns(?) copyrights on 2 adult movies.
I can't imagine the fun of watching Randazza defending recipients of pay-or-else letters alleging illegal file-sharing sent by Righthaven!

Hmm.. maybe Gibson/Mangano heeded my advice not to respond to copyright trolls' scary letters? ...but I'm not sure my advice applies in this particular case.
Anyway it is always fun to watch how trolls cannibalize each other.

Re: Wow
I’m more than sure that the lawyers who authorized the takedown (presumably the same ones that wrote the explanation to the Court) would claim that in addition to not violating the law, they did not do anything unethical.
The problem here is that legal ethics (as a discipline) is perceived by legal crowd as just another law, i.e. “everything that is not explicitly prohibited is allowed”. This perception is fundamentally flawed.
Porn copyright trolls say on record that they are guided by the code of professional conduct and since what they do is not explicitly covered by it, it's OK and ethical to continue their extortion business.
Ethics was never a rule-based concept, but more complex reflection of public opinion and wisdom. Legal ethics should address the issues beyond the reach of the law, not to be just another chapter in a codex.

Re: Re:
> It's really a USPTO issue as they're the enablers.
Well, then as of copyright trolling, it's a Congress issue as they are the enablers (by introducing ridiculously, insanely, unconstitutionally high statutory damages).

Does this reasoning apply to copyright trolls? Is Kathryn Bigelow morally responsible for the abuse of her creation "Hurt Locker" if she blessed that abuse or at least did not try to prevent it?

Re: Re:
Ohai. Sure many will! Although I don't like it, in US admission = guilt (unlike France for example). If a douchebag admits it's extortion, no more proof is needed. At least in his cases.
Sorry for offtopic (on a second thought, it's not: know what "sopa" means in Swedish? Applicable to copyright trolls).
"I used to compare trolls to insects and worms, but seeing those tiny organisms living their lives, having their important little places in the universe, I’m embarrassed for being so mean to those insects and worms; it is unfair to compare these living, loving creatures to unnatural, greedy and sleazy ones – Sperlein, Steele, Siegel, Dunlap, Stone, Ford and scores of other trolls"

Re: Re: Re: Re: Agree/Disagree
DH, I respect your opinion very much, an agree with you in most cases, but don't be black-and-white: having suicidal mood does not automatically imply mental illness. I know many normal men who were pretty close...
I wanted to underline that threatening with publicity in connection with porno may cause a serious stress, up to suicidal thoughts. Randazza knows that, though he tries to downplay the power of the weapon he uses to extort ransoms.
According to my observations, the settlement rate in "Hurt Locker" cases is relatively low, straight porno - higher, and gay porno is the highest. This statistics shows that the fear to be associated with gay porno is real, it is not just "mere embarrassment" regardless of what judges, gay right activists, homophobes, cat bloggers etc. say.
