One of my favorite comic artists kept his work backed up on MegaUpload... he's working on backing them up elsewhere, but it's nice that their still the stuff from Mega still their just in case... for now anyway.
if it works out as they make it seem like it's supposed to work, theoretically the inventor of the patent would have a say in how his/her patent is used in court. At least that's what it sounds like to me. But your right, for all we know this is just a PR stunt and twitter might just force their employees to allow it to happen anyway. Though, if the inventors really do get to keep control of the patent even after leaving employment at twitter, that might be helpful.
There's a great example of this being done right with the new Avatar (the tv show not the movie) series, the Legend of Korra. Nickelodeon actually released the first two episodes online, and had high quality versions available on Amazon and itunes for free. I'm so excited to see the rest of the series, it looks so good :D
Even if there was a conflict of interest, I don't really see the problem since the "conflict of interest" the government claims exists is that the Law-firm that MegaUpload wants to hire would be in conflict against supporting Mega... which Mega has said they are absolutely OK with and that the Law firm claims that there is not... sooo, wouldn't it be perfectly within Mega's rights to hire a company they want, even if it turns out to be against their best interests (though I really really doubt it would be in this case.)
