And the award for best actor goes to... "The Batmobile" Yes, it brought tears to my eyes when it jumped over that ravine, and who can forget it's hilarious performance trying to find a parking spot in the garage. Hopefully this award will end the ongoing argument over which vehicle portrayed The Batmobile the best.
If they came here to make reasonable and intelligent arguments they wouldn't be called "shills."
They're only here to be "shills" - to sling pointless and degrading insults, to attack the character of the author and the opinions of the website, to stir the pot and rally everyone against them, and then to act like they've been victimized for their ignorant and rude behavior. Their only guiding philosophy is that Techdirt is wrong no matter what, and rather than simply ignore it, they feel it must be destroyed.
The sad thing is it's likely been the same people doing this for many, many years. They come here daily to simply nag something they don't like. When I think of the energy they've wasted (and has been wasted as a result of them, including what I'm typing right now) it's phenomenal.
Re: I'm Calling for a Separation of Media and State
It doesn't explain why the troll comments are so idiotic. If I were paying for such poor propaganda I'd be firing some people because they're not doing their job.
This has nothing to do with respect and everything to do with protection from lawsuits.
Nevermind that the tenants of fair use allow journalists to use newsworthy images without asking permission, because you only need permission if it's infringing, and fair use is not infringing.
And nevermind that everyone that's NOT a news organization will unhesitatingly retweet, share on facebook, email to friends, post on their blogs, upload to reddit, etc. any newsworthy or interesting photo they come across all without any show of disrespect.
Putting something online, esp. an open forum like Twitter, is basically giving it to the world.
And it's the worst kind of greed. It's not the simple greed of "I could make money with this." It's the greed of "Someone else might make money with this." When in fact, there's almost no money to be made from this, if any. It's envy-greed that stems from the fact that they didn't think of it first.
They are the same thing in that they don't require a streaming license. The goal isn't how you watch a movie, it's being able to watch any movie you want. In fact, I think Netflix has the advantage here because Amazon video is still restricted to licensing.
The way to get the same thing from Netflix is to sign up for their bluray/DVD service. Then you can get exactly the movie you need, and the DVD catalog is huge.
I know it's not as simple as click a button and the movie plays, which is what everyone seems to want.
You can also try your local library, where movies are free.
Streaming is turning out to be just cable by a different method. Nothing but restrictions on what you can watch so the content owners can control the market.
And I'm the opposite. All I watch are movies, and there's always been far more than enough intersting stuff for me to stream that I've never run out of things to watch.

I also think everyone can see that the candidate thing was a bit of a lark to raise awareness.

That's what happens when you can't debate his points.
