I can't even read articles in the Globe or the Star (two of the main papers in Canuckistan) when it comes to the net, unless the article is by Geist. Their coverage of SOPA/PIPA was appaling, their general approach to anything involving piracy seems merely to repeat industry factoids without question.
Aside, Marcus, are you writing for a paper? And if so, can you disclose which one? I certainly haven't seen your name on the Star, so I'm guessing it's not that (but to honest I don't always pay close attention to bylines).
"Yes, and think about how life would suck if someone hacked the road system in West Virginia and turned all roads into cabbage patches?"
Mike, stop giving ideas to our enemies. This cyber-cabbageocalypse will kill us all!
You'll be making snide remarks out of the other side of your head when a trojan-infested road savoy is gnawing on your innards, or when the leaf heads march on the capitol building.
"Don't worry," you say. "They're rich in vitamins C and K!" But did you also know cabbages are rich in vitamin D? Not the secosteroids, but D as in DEATH?!?! That's right, VITAMIN DEATH!!! They have it, and they're coming for us all.
The one on blank cd's is especially hilarious these days since it's both irrelevant in that blank discs are dying, and are so far removed from your typical pirated music lifecycle (bittorrented mp3's on mp3player/smartphone) that it's basically a waste of ink and paper.
Re: Re: Re: Maybe we should all shut up about this...
"Making your customers hate your guts is a lousy business model."
Absolutely, my point is different though. I feel no sympathy for the publishers, I'm just saying under an amazon monopoly, the publishers and the consumers suffer. The publishers don't get a lot of sympathy, but it's hard to be gleeful over their predicament when consumers also get screwed.
So what's the point? The verdict will ruin her life for downloading 24 songs.
To what end?
The only logical answer is to "make an example of her". To ruin the credit of a single mother, to grossly impact the quality of life of her children, because she downloaded 24 songs.
It's a gross abuse of power, beyond all reason. Pointing to a law drafted by corrupt politicians does not make it reasonable, or just.
"First off, the "store next door thinks your stuff is similar" is pure bullshit at it's finest. Action like that would be the basis for a nasty counter lawsuit that would bankrupt the store next door. Sorry to disappoint you guys!"
The POINT, my intentionally obtuse friend, is that it shouldn't happen. This is not the same as "if it happens, you can sue". The attempt to shift the burden of establishing cause away from law enforcement is disingenuous and deceitful. Keep trying though.
"They aren't going to shut down questionable websites - they are going to shut down ones packed with pirated material. Sorry to disappoint you again!"
Just like Dajaz1.com? or Rojadireita? All packed with, um wait, not pirated materials, but links. Dreaded, evil, delicious links.
"As for child pr0n, all I can say is if you are downloading it online, don't be shocked if the feds are in knocking on your door soon enough. The net isn't THAT anonymous, sorry to disappoint you"
Obvious troll is obvious. If you'd care to comment on the comic go ahead, what you've spewed there was unrelated.
No one will give any money because of all you scurvy pirates.
Wait, they're at almost $600k now.
I mean uhh... oh, yes, ahem... This is a one off, and no one could make Modern Warfare 8: Limey Killin' Ruskies With Every Action Movie Cliché Ever Conceived with a model like this, so businesses must have the ability to shutdown websites on a whim, because video games are dying. Pay no attention to the Kickstarter badge.

Prove you didn't kill someone or the gov't will seize your domain.
Remember now, innocence is assumed, and the gov't is the one who needs to come up with substantiating evidence in order to seize property.
