Saw this over at the Ars Technica comments. Apparently these guys run a website http://savecinema.org which has all its tired old babble about losing money and other false information.
One commenter found this tidbit, however.
"* PROBLEM: ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS COSTS THE MOVIE INDUSTRY $20.5 BILLION EACH YEAR*. IN THE FIRST WEEK OF A DVD RELEASE THERE ARE MORE THAN 30,000 UNLAWFUL DOWNLOADS^.
* SOLUTION: THE US COPYRIGHT GROUP WILL ASSIST WITH COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT"
I also don't get what is 'screwy'. It looks like any other document viewer online to me. The document is easy to read without needing any other software.
Tho, after Mike's response, I'm guessing you wish you didn't even say anything at all?
Thanks for considering this story for the front page, Mike. I hope to see a front page post in a year or two that follows the same line as Arizona where they are scrapping the program.
I don't know the details, but it didn't seem like there was too much debate against the red light cameras. Sadly, I was ignorant to this law and its happenings until it was passed and announced on the local news.
I'm sure there are other people that agree with my stance, but what are the chances of enough people to fight this new law? Fall on deaf ears? I personally can't afford to fight this (both time and money wise), so I guess the next step is to find flaws (like shorter yellow lights) or wait for more accidents to happen.
Then again, this is Florida. We can't even vote right. :) Yes I went there.
Anyway, thank you Mike for taking the time to do a great writeup on the issue.
I know one thing is for sure, which each shutdown, more people find out about the pirate bay, and they get more users. Maybe P.P. is in it for the votes? Who knows. It is def a political move, IMHO.
Its always been about 'now' and not the future. Look at the housing market lol. People made tons of cash 'now' only to eventually ruin the future market.
Probably bad examples, but the point is no one cares much about the future, only what can get them the most money now.
A quick reply to myself. 'to lazy' should be 'too lazy'.
Also, I still own and actively use a VCR. I don't rebuy movies on new formats just because they look better. Further my personal stance not to pay twice for the same content. I guess that makes me cheap? :)
Here is why I didn't buy. Yes I understand this is a bundle, but a choice to leave out specific game devs would have been nice. Maybe overcomplicated, but nice.
I already have World Of Goo. There is no way to pick and choose what game(s) I want. I don't feel up to paying for World of Goo twice. So everyone loses here. I'm to lazy to even go pirate the other games.
I could be rude and give all the money to charity, but that isn't fair to the other developers.
I don't pay for most things twice, that's my hard stance. I'll just have to wait until the next bundle comes around.
Anyone else not buy because they didn't want to pay for a game twice? Anyone own all the games and pay the devs twice for them?
Yea, the Ars Technica article is totally BS. "Ripped Off" ?? I want to be ripped off and make $750k please.
Apparently, this is how Ars works. I used to be a fan of that site but after the advertisement fiasco and their constant bashing in stories like this, not so much anymore. It is a shame too because they have some real talent there.
Sadly too, their user base (based on comments to the story) totally buys into the article and calls everyone thieves, stealers, robbers, etc.
I wish I had an account at Ars, just to show this story and tell them to shove it. But, it's too much work to make an account at yet another website that doesn't care.
This guy also forgets that just because a game isn't cracked on release doesn't mean it was not possible to do. This game probably sucked so bad that no one wanted it. Once people found out about Starforce, they just moved on to something better.
Technically, the PS3 hasn't been cracked yet to allow homebrew/backup games. There was some work by geohotz month or so ago, but that was just the start. Three years+ on the PS3.
That is what gets me the most. People cry and complain about DRM, yet the titles keep selling like crazy.
It is funny, however, when I visit a game store like GameStop and ask the Clerk for the PC version of a game and I get asked why I want the PC version because PC gamers are a dying breed.
Anyway, all this talk about people boycotting and what not is almost always FUD. People talk about not buying while they are ordering the game in another tab.
