Ranting and raving over new technology and trends is nothing new. In the early 1900s, phonographs and movies were the target, in the 40s, it was comic books, since the 50s TV has been a favorite target and since the 1990s, the Internet and so on.
Every 20 or so years, a new technology will be embrace by young people and eschewed and reviled by their elders. Even Plato ranted and raved about corrupt youth in ancient Athens.
Copyright must die because it's just a form of censorship and control. So what if I use a few lines of someone else's work in something I write? Does that make it any less valid? If it's a blatant ripoff, call me out on it. But don't try to knock me offline just because I borrowed from someone else!
People have always borrowed from their predecessors! Ancient Greek plays were based on Ancient Egyptian mystery plays. Shakespeare then borrowed from the Ancient Greek plays for his stories. If copyright had been around back then, we wouldn't have King Lear or Romeo and Juliet!
I'd like to see the rule modified to where we can have phones on, but they must be in vibrate and only silent use (texting, IMing, Web surfing, etc.) is allowed. No one wants to be trapped in a cabin full of people airing their dirty laundry.
