There is a ton of music in these games that I (and I'm sure thousands of others) heard of until I played the game. Like Priestest, Silversun Pickups, and others that soon after the release of the game started becoming known and popular.
If you have actually played any of these games (which I suspect you haven't) and have heard of every single artist and know every single song, then you are either in the music business, or have way too much free time to explore music.
That doesn't even take into account all the DLC that follows on XBox Live or PSN where small bands get songs for these games released after the game has been out for a year.
"Do you believe artists should be compensated for having their music in Guitar Hero?"
I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that Mike has said in a prior post that artists SHOULDN'T be compensated for having their music in Guitar Hero. And it was for the same reason. It's exposure that can be capitalized on. What other ways, you ask? Oh, I don't know, maybe ticket sales, merchandise sales, name recognition, endorsement deals, and that's just off the top of my head. Please think things through before you post.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Michael Atkinson YOU SIR are a crook
True, SLC didn't suffer from a lack of snow, but that illistrates that it's possible to host a Winter Olympics (TM) in a venue that's not very snowy as long as you do it right. Which clearly Vancouver didn't do.
I happen to like the smell of gun power. And women don't sweat, they glisten...
"1. Change the name of Canadian Bacon to something else."
Canadians actually call it back bacon. It's Americans who insist on calling it Canadian bacon.
"2. The next time you want to host the winter olympics, how about doing it someplace where it snows occasionally?"
Like the US did when they hosted it last in SALT LAKE CITY?
"3. We don't want anymore of your newscasters. Stop exporting the to the States...."
Speak for yourself.
"4. Can you do something about Sarah Palin? I know she's one of ours, but your closer and the smell has to be KILLING you...."
I'm not sure what smell you're (notice I used the conjuntive form) refering to, but if you get rid of Keith Olberman, I'll see what I can do about Palin.
"5. How about figuring out that whole Quebec thing? I'm sick of hearing about how they want independence. Slap that bitch down like it stole something!"
I say if they want independence, give it to them. Those Frog wannabes are annoying. Good riddance.
Apology: "When I called him a crook, I'm afraid I mispoke. I aplogize for that. What I meant to say is that given the chance, he'd sell his own mother for a quarter. Or shake down any critic for $20 grand. I retract my earlier statement and hope that Mr. Atkinson will consider this statement my true feelings on the matter."
So even though they didn't use Sarver's name, and changed the portrayal of the character enough that he doesn't behave the way Sarver says he behaves, it's somehow him?
You know what? Avatar was based off my life. I met James Cameron once and told him how I wanted to go into space someday. Then he went and made a whole movie about that. But he's defamed my name because I'm not handicaped. I want a cut of Avatar's profits now or I'll sue him. Makes about as much sense as Sarver's claims.
It seems by trying to extort $20,000 out of this guy, he's proven that he actually IS a crook, and therefore the commenter was just stating a fact. Mr. McQuillan should demand Atkinson issue him an appology and some compensation.
"The Amazon prices are also low enough to convince me not to bother downloading the music illegally."
If you already bought the CD, it's not illegal to download the mp3 version off a file sharing service. At least that'll by my defense if the RIAA ever comes for me.
For a while I was buying LPs and leaving them shrink wrapped and in mint condition, but then I'd go and use bit torrent to get the album on my computer. This way, I've given the recording industry their cut, got the music in the formats I want, and have something that might grow in value someday. Since I could actually rip the LP into mp3s if I wanted, I don't think the labels would have much of a case against me.
Re: Are we sure Credit numbers even mean anything?
Yes they are necessary. You think banks aren't lending much now? Eliminate credit scoring and nobody without verifiable collateral and assets will get a dime from them, or other businesses who extend credit.
I'm a credit manager for a electrical distributor and without Experian and other credit report agencies my company would have a hard time extending any credit to any small business. And those trying to start up a small business? Forget it.
When I first started reading this I thought for sure it was a district attorney or AG trying to make a name for themselves before an election year.
It either had to be that or someone trying to stifle competition. Turns out it was the latter, but don't be surprised if some DA or AG somewhere else decides to jump on this bandwagon too.
