"So how big is the Tech industry compared to the MPAA members?"
Google or Apple could buy all of the RIAA and MPAA member companies and not break a sweat. If you are talking market cap of all internet based companies it has to be a multiple in the 1,000s.
Should a Rumba, Toaster, 3d house printing robot be given rights? The answer is no.
Should a large scale MolSID (Molecular Scale Integration Device - Nanotech) device containing a human or human like intelligence be given rights? The answer is yes.
There are so many other questions that also need to be answered.
- Who is responsible when a programming glitch makes all Google cars run amok and kill people?
- Should the above event lead to civil or criminal charges?
- If you delete the last back up of a human mind is that murder?
- If you delete an AI that has human like intelligence is that murder?
- If you have a back up of your mind, can the police get a search warrant to go through it?
- How do you handle copyright on music, video, and books in backups of human minds?
How about a plugin that hits up random web sites and does random google searches in the back ground. Fill up their data set with so much noise they would never be able to tell what you are actually doing.
Why do we even need regulations for this? Anyone being a scammer will get caught and the law and internet will take care of the rest. Streisand anyone....
Please (weird squeekie on the last e) ... Mike you had to realize this would happen
The governments of the world are waking up to the fact that their populations do not like business as usual. It comes from a very simple place, they no longer control all access to information.
Internet rights ... To funny, just plop the word Internet in front of something and it becomes something new. In reality we are just talking about the ability to communicate freely.
Why don't we get the silicon valley tech giants to play the same game as big entertainment. Get them to hire Victoria and staff, and the staff at the DOJ.
I think this is going to be used against any companies that compete with the "Content Industry". Which will backfire far worse than trying to take down ThePirateBay. They obviously haven't heard the phrase, the Streisand Effect.
