I was told that if you add up all the labels profits "all" the artists would have re-cooped over 20 times over. But that is just averages and has nothing to do with reality, and less to do with label accounting.
Actually, wasn't their business in Hong Kong and renting servers in the US? With any payment processing done overseas they would not be transacting business in the US but Hong Kong.
You are right that "Free trade doesn't hurt jobs". The issue is that Free trade agreements do hurt jobs. Once you regulate trade with agreements, it becomes something less than free trade. The current batch of free trade agreements are the modern equivalent of the East India Company all over again.
