Really I would love to see Google man up and protest by shutting down. Can you even imagine the effect it would have if Google shut everything down for 12 hours? Just turn off all their servers and take a day off. It would be more than just loosing a search engine. It would take a lot of websites down that are with them, gmail, google docs, and all that is stored in them. Them shutting down like that would stop this bill cold. No News organization could ignore it as it would have HUGE world wide effects.
The main difference that will be causing the issue is the sites being filtered. The bill makes it far to easy for someone to attack a site they don't like and get it on a blocked list. OpenDNS offers a filtering service but from what I can tell that is kind of a separate layer on top of their DNS. You can setup an account and choose what you want filtered. It is not actually messing with the core DNS.
Well sadly I can tell you that all these "wonderful" drugs being pushed these days are not simple placebos. I have not seen many cases of "sudden death" as a side affect of a sugar pill. I guess if you had serious case of diabetes, but baring that.
I mean really, does anyone listen to the list of side affects for the drugs they advertise these days? The side affects of the drug are much much worse than what your trying to cure.
Well that is part of the problem now isn't it? The bill outlaws anything used to get around the measures of the bill. So if everyone starts encrypting everything then encryption will get attacked.
The reason students buy the new books is because the schools require it. I personally have gotten screwed over by the school system enough that I took a step back and saw it for what it is. The school system is nothing more than a money vacuum.
They require you to take classes that have nothing to do with your degree wasting your time and taking your money. I then thought about testing out of some classes. I figured that would be a good way to get around somethings. The school then told me to test out of a class I have to pay FULL PRICE for the class and then take the test.
There is no way to justify what the school system is currently doing. They are no longer there to educate students but are there to see how much they can milk out of someone.
I for one have chosen to boycott the school system. I am just going to go out and teach myself what I need and get certifications in my field. I'm done throwing money at that monstrosity. I hope to see the day that the whole system fall in on its self. Having a degree does not mean what it once did.
Well what is really kind of funny is that you have to buy that mod chip. So in a way you have to pay to steal. So it was not even stealing for free. If you stop and look at it most of the pirating of movies, music, and games actually cost money. Rarely is theft really cost free, it is just the money does not go to the person who made whatever it is you are stealing.
The sad part is that there really is no need to hack anything. Almost everything these days is made in China. Someone comes up with a great new product and want to go to market with it. So they go to china to have it produced. Soon as they do that the plans for the product are sent to a company in China who fills the order. Then the company makes a few more bucks mass producing product and selling the copies. No hacking or anything fancy involved.
Ah but you forget, the government is not subject to these laws of which you speak. They are impossible to get into court and even if you do get them there they will just sweep it under the rug.
The other funny thing they dont seem to realize is that consumers are not as stupid as they like to pretend we are. When someone goes online to buy a $1000 bag for $45 they know they are not buying the real bag.
I look at things like these bags and shoes the same as art. Someone who buys a copy of a famous painting to hang in their home knows it is not the real thing. They could never afford the real one so they settle for the copy. Now there are always those though that will settle for nothing less than the original and will pay millions to own originals. No amount of cheep copies will make the original worth less. The same is true of these products.
So long as the true manufacture makes a quality product they will always have people willing to pay for it. The cheep made in China or whatever products will have flaws and not be of the same quality. If the knockoffs are of same or better quality then the maker needs to look at their production and fix the problem.
It is kind of funny if you step back and look at things. Like what about all the jobs they are destroying? Those people here in America selling these goods? Those people on the streets selling these goods have a job selling them. It is not a "legal" job but still an American job. All of this is about protecting the "blessed" few. It is not really about jobs so much as it is about control over those jobs.
Anyone wanting a reference for this should grab the manual for a Texas Instruments calculator and take a moment to read it. You realize there is actually a part telling you that you do not own the calculator and it is illegal to modify it?
The really scary thing is I can only come to two scenarios here.
1. The people in charge of the movie and music industries are complete idiots who have their heads very safely hidden up their own ass. (This is the "good" scenario)
2. The people in charge of the movie and music industry are so drunk with power that they will actually make moves like this that they know will drive up piracy all in an effort for more control. See the more they drive up piracy the more they have to "cry" about and beg Washington to fix.
Somehow I think it is probably the second option, and that is down right scary.
Well I'm surprised they have not attacked 3D technology yet. Then again, maybe that is why it is FINALLY coming out. You realize all this "new" 3D technology is really over 10 years old? The fancy shutter glasses the new TVs use have been around for over 10 years easy. I have a pair that works on a computer that I bought over 10 years ago and it was not new then.
It really makes you stop and think. Where would we be today if these companies did not kill off anything that they did not want to compete with? What kind of technology has been suppressed and hidden from the main stream because those in power did not like it?
Well when you look at the actions they keep taking, like how they jacked up the license cost for netflix, I think they are out to push people to other things. The movie studios jacked up their price and that caused netflix to pass that cost on to subscribers. I promptly left netflix.
Admittedly that was MOSTLY due to the way netflix handled it. I did not mind the price hike so much as the rude "we don't give a fuck about our loyal customers" attitude they took.
End result though is that I used to pay netflix and was happy watching shows there. Now I'm just as happy watching whatever I want for free. It is not "instant", but so what? I will not pay someone to treat me like trash. Until they show their customers some respect they can live without my money.
Surly you jest! Hollywood make a film that was original? You mean they would actually have to make something other than a prequel, sequel, or a remake!?!? This cannot be!!
There is our governments position on things. For those of you who want a summary here goes.
People created a petition asking for raw milk to be legal to buy. It is currently illegal in a lot of the US for you to buy raw milk to drink. These people understand what they are asking for and any risks they might take in having raw milk.
The governments response is basically "We know what is best for you. So sit down, shut up, and do as you are told."
Now please tell me why it is any business of the government what I choose to eat or drink? The only regulation of any type the government should be doing for food is regulating that is has to be clearly labeled as what it is. If I want raw milk that is my right. If I want to eat deer meat I should be able to go buy some. So long as the seller is honest about what the food is then I they should be allowed to sell it and me be allowed to buy it.
