As an American, I honestly hope so.
It might quell the egos that the older generation "that knows better" has.
My years in high school never did anything like this. I mean, sheesh, I accidentally broke school property and the worst that happened to me was that I had to see the principal. I shudder to think what would happen to me now if I got in trouble like that if I was in high school these days.
