Well, the Ipad GUI doesn't allow for those kinds of things, because it was, well, made by Apple. And Apple likes to tell it's customers what they can and can't do with the product they bought.
I think what he meant was that the current patent system doesn't work. I'm all for patents, or maybe some alternative to rewarding invention, but the current patent system is too restrictive. We need to find a new way or at least adjust current patent law so that it is not so restrictive on growth.
Perhaps a shorter monopoly, or more strict guidelines for new patents. Another idea is to have rewards for patents, new original patents which means stricter guidelines.
In the provided source the article claimed it was a group of academics speaking to a parliamentary committee. I don't know why you keep insisting the article claims it was at a "Public Hearing" but ignore the big bold letters that state that it was indeed for parliament, or at least a committee
The only obvious explanation is that Google has finally taken over the government, and that their first plan of action is to turn Techdirt into a government subsidized propaganda mill to indoctrinate us in the tenets of Google-ism!

The other guy didn't steal the code at all, he "built his own" which probably meant he wrote his own code. Besides it is apparently a new "simple" blogging tool, the code to write it was probably elementary enough, whats new was the idea for the tool.
Wow, usually if you get caught cussing at school the worse you get is a slap of the wrist. Sounds more like the school was trying to make an example of him.
Kind of silly when I think back to my high school years and remember half my teachers and all of the subs cussed themselves!
