Integrity in politics will only come in partnership with integrity in the people responsible for reporting politics. Whilst we have a news cycle based upon excoriating every mistake, we have a perverse incentive that encourages everyone at the mercy of that cycle to hide those mistakes until the last possible moment at which point their career is over.
It's a bit like nuclear disarmament during the cold war - how do you get the parties to stop the stockpiling and escalation without everyone doing it at the same time?
I do recall that Mike coined a term for idiots like this quite some time ago... bringing even more attention upon oneself when trying to eliminate the evidence of previous idiocy!
From the article, it was stated that the good doctor stated the mortality rate as 0.02%, not 2% as in 'the media'. Whilst arithmetically you might be right to state that this is only 'a few percent more deadly', it's also 100 times as deadline. (See what you can achieve with numbers!)
Let's say just 10% of the world's population encounters Covid-19 (which seems to be an extraordinarily low percentage, but let's just run with it for now). That means 750 million people suffer from the disease. Now let's kill 0.02% of them ... that's 150,000. That's a lot of corpses by any measure.
Now make it 2% ... suddenly you've killed off 15 MILLION people.
'a few percent' is an awful lot of dead folks.
I would normally flag this kind of idiocy, but instead I've left it visible (and I hope others will do the same) so that we can all see what kind of thought processes the anti-vaxxers maintain.
Wakefield was found guilty of fraud and extreme professional misconduct. He will never practise any form of medicine or medical research again. And that's how it should be, given the damage he has done.
Who on earth thought it appropriate to either call the cops, or alert a cop who might already have been there, that the tantrum had happened. Surely that person also bears a significant portion of the blame rightly being handed around.
I have been on a jury. And would be happy to do it again.
I would not have been happy to be on that jury (and I would not be happy to do it again) if my name & image were reported alongside the case. There are some nasty people involved in criminal cases, with nasty attitudes towards jurors.
If you want a reasonably fair judicial system, you need a wide range of people willing to be jurors. Leaving them in fear of the consequences suggests you'll struggle even more to find such people.
Shame that the phrase is "the proof is in the pudding", not "the putting".
The rest of your point stands just fine though.
When will law enforcement leadership and DAs actually get fired for these kinds of bungles instead of just throwing the little guys under the bus?
Re: Castle doctrine really is the heart of the 2nd Amendment
So much for the theory of policing that runs across most civilised societies... policing by consent. Look it up sometime. Results in far fewer fatalities in law enforcement, on both sides of the blue line.
I find the simplest way to explain Trump is that he thinks he rules the USA, whereas the constitutional reality, and indeed the oath he swore, make him the ultimate servant of the electorate of the USA.
Once you've understood his mind-set, everything else just falls into place.
Now, didn't you folks have a small armed get-together a few years ago to rid yourselves of your last monarch?
