1. Get government grant to do research
2. Patent government sponsored research as a patent
3. Get government tax break to attempt using it in a business model.
4. After for government bail out when business fails.
5. Sell patent to government
6. Profit, profit and more profit!
Yep privatize profits all around at the expense of the tax payer. I thought this business model was already patented by every US business.
I have been lucky enough to work across the country. I have worked with people with credentials and education up the yang.
I have typically found the more educated the person the longer it takes them to actually make decisive choice. They often spend significant time analyzing things and over analyzing them. They make come up with a far better solution in the end but often the time it takes to get there is not really justified.
I also have to note that the more education the more they get paid but as my previous paragraph indicates they take longer at decision making. Not the always the best value for your money in a fast paced agile business environment.
I worked with several PhDs and after they spent a week analyzing the best solution I commented to do it a very simple way (not very efficient though). With my trusty math skills I showed the long term implement costs of mine over 20 years was equivalent to 6 hours of their billable time. There best solution (after taking into account their wages) would have a cost recovery of about 2000 years.
I have encounter many much such cases. Sometimes some people think they are just too smart. Sometimes it is more important to just get the job done.
I guess all new cell phone contract will now include a clause that will grant them consent to use your GPS information to track you. Yea GPS data is nice for cell companies as if they know your location AND direction/speed they can better facility tower switch.
Is there an automatic exception as it related to the Patriot Act (and home land security)?
Strange I wonder if they will try to take away my FREE iPod Touch that I won. It was new and never opened when I received it.
How would Apple even know I won it?
Are they planning on tracking individual unit sales linked to bank account and credit cards?
I have to agree that I do not see how they could even enforce this.
We often made pop corn over (in) the fire place. As nothing like running outside with giant fire that once was quickly popped, then burnt, then on fire pop corn. Ah the smell of burnt pop corn stayed in the house for days...
Then came the hot air popper. They worked fairly good but lots of unpopped seeds left over.
Microwave popcorn was nice but expensive. A few trail and errors and we did the brown paper bag trick. The smell of this burnt microwave popcorn would clean out in an hour.
After all that Theater popcorn is the the best. Could never really afford an industry popper like those ones. But now you can buy small home ones. My from Costco sits in the bar and make the best popcorn but no burnt smell.
Hollywood wants to encourage more pirates. This way they can send out more 'settlement' letters and make thousands in profit for a movie they never spent a dime to deliver to you. They could make a small amount off you if rented it (maybe a buck) but the big money will be the revenue generated by 'settlement' letters. The 'settlement' letters would actually get more money out of than if you even bought it.
Although I have texting including in my plan I do not have some high data texting plan - which run at least $1 a message and up to $2.50 a message if images are included. Those 'special' message can not even display on my phone and I only get the subject line (old cell phone).
I somehow how got onto one of those mailing list and got these daily messages. I saw my bill and was told the only way to stop them was to reply and request I stop them. I did and they sent me one of these high prices special message saying they got may request. Then another one of these high prices special messages saying they where processing it. Then another one of these high prices special messages saying it was just about done processing. Then another one of these high prices special messages saying it was done. Then another one of these high prices special messages saying I could sign up again if I wanted to. Then another one of these high prices special messages asking why I quite the service. Then another one of these high prices special messages asking me to reconfirm my stopping the service. Then only about 5 more over the next month to ask if I wanted to sign back up. Total cost was nearly $100 to quite the service I do not ever remember signing up for.
You are making a fundamental mistake about what the 'music' industry is selling. It is not about selling music any a$$hat can do that. It is about selling a piece of vinyl or plastic repeatedly. It is about the distribution channels they control. Warner Music and other so called music companies are in the business of selling physical media and altering the format and selling you the same product on a different physical media again and again and again. They is way the have the mind set that piracy is theft. Anything they threatens their strangle hold on the distribution of physical items is a threat to their fundamental business model.
Every digital sale is a loss of physical sale. They make money off the music AND the mark up on the physical item AND distribution of that physical item.
If any online distribution model became to big then what would be the point of a physical distribution model anymore?
As an opening argument the defense needs to recite Pi... all of Pi, or at least to the point where it repeats.
Although Erickson's lawyers seem to be a bit opportunities they might want to valid and check the validity of Pi to it natural conclusion too. The legal bill should be as long as Pi.
I think they see the finical shake down success of the MPAA and RIAA.

We know you are pirate and will be taking you to court to sue you for $50,000. Or you can settle now quickly for $2500.
As our banking system is having problems we will also need your help to transfer this money. You can get a 10% discount if you supply us with your SIN, bank account and pin number, and mother's maiden name.
of the 440 pages how many are for coloring? How many interesting pictures? That is why the politicians do not read it.
Politicians do not care because no one have paid them off to tell them they should care. Now if the authors contributed money to their campaign..... at least more than the people who do not want them to care about it.
In either case the politicians will actually never read it. They want it summarized up in one page with lots of pictures and bundled with a wad of cash.
I hope the collection society does get all crazy.

pizza delivery in HIS car p- PAYS!
Children listening to their iPod while mowing their neighbors for cash - PAYS!
Whistle while you work - PAYS!
Teacher marking assignment at home with the Radio on - PAYS!
Music store - hell yeah PAYS and pays double if a customer tries out an instrument and plays a registered tune.
The craziness of it all will make people mad enough to actually DO something about it. Or everyone will quit listening to their music and demand a FREE source that does not involve such finical entanglements.
In the short run it will suck. They will make money. In the long run society will be better as their business model will drive themselves out of business and a new Free society will emerge.
Simply ask them to pay for your indemnity insurance in exchange for letting them re-post your stuff for free.
Back in the individual Consulting days a client required indemnity insurance and simply billed it to them as an expense for doing business with me - they happy paid with out questions.
