The economist article that Pixelation links to above mentions the fact that studies hint that those who don't have jobs because of sex offender status are more likely to have recidivism.
You know why they passed this law, rather than the educational program Zachary mentioned...
1. It would require thinking the issue through, but the politicians involved just want the headline.
2. It would cost the government money, this program pushes the costs off onto the game networks.
It is sad that this is what we come to expect from our political "leaders".
I think what she should do is offer to appear in the music video, behind bars, and looking surprised... But she does not have that much of a sense of humor about herself.
On the Other Hand, IANAL, but there is no First Amendment argument to be made. The First amendment prevents government suppression of speech.
Wasn't the super bowl a couple of weeks after the shutdown, and the TV networks rolled out new seasons directly after that, too. Might this not have contributed to the traffic increase?
I found one at a restaurant in Ft Lauderdale (Pei-Wei Diner). It was great! 20 different flavors of Diet Coke, all on hand. Is is such a bad thing that they can recall a flavor if there is trouble...
It increases choice and value. It actually shows a lot of innovation on their part. Ir can also let them know what flavors to market in supermarkets, as it acts as a survey machine, telling them what people buy.
The petition asked that the process be "more transparent". From a lawyer's point of view, all they have to do is issue a press release, and they have become more open that they were before.
The point that everyone seems to miss is that the internet has again acted as a communication medium. In the same way that the legacy distribution channels for content are now obsolete, because the content can be quickly disseminated over the 'net, the people who were heard were not limited to those who actually took the time to (and succeeded in) getting an appointment with their congressmen. Many more people's voices were heard.
Could the Internet become the thing that makes true democracy possible?
