I believe TAM is correct. It certainly is just like strapping a camera on your dog. As many have stated here, the chimps are the property of the zoo just like a dog is the property of its owner. There is no creative difference between a chimp holding a camera with its hands and a dog copping a squat in the back yard with a camera strapped to its back. Either way, the animals are property and property cannot hold a copyright.
As far as minors are concerned...taken from copyright.gov
Can a minor claim copyright?
Minors may claim copyright, and the Copyright Office issues registrations to minors, but state laws may regulate the business dealings involving copyrights owned by minors. For information on relevant state laws, consult an attorney.
How amusing. I did not know there was an Aboriginal flag and if it weren't for this post, I still would not know. On the other hand, if Google had been allowed to use the flag....awareness would have been increased...its on Google's main page and would have exposed millions of people to the flag. I dont see the logic in not allowing the flag to be used. If money was the issue, how much could they expect to get paid for allowing Google to use it? A dollar-two-fifty?
I wonder what the tribe's elders have to say about copyright...
>“It’s the future go kiss some strangers butt and then they might buy your music”
Or you could just keep kissing the butt of some A&R rep. and then they might sign your band. If "I love you , you're the best audience ever!" isnt butt kissing then I dont know what is....
>If you want people to buy your music and not steal it then that’s how it has to be
>Stand up and tell people you don’t like thieving lowlifes who steal music.
>Yeah you wont make friends but then, who want thieving friends
Lars Ulrich tried that bull and look what happened. He and Metallica are still enjoying the backlash...hell hath no fury like a fan scorned.
Actually, yes. When it comes to dealing with a "hard looking fbi agent", you still have to follow procedure. My response to the agent would be, "please have a seat while I call to verify you are who you say you are. And oh is that a warrant...yes, I will need to see that too." Youre not getting into my datacenter unless everything checks out...and then youll be looking over my shoulder as I get whatever it is you need.
"Police and fire officials also will not seek to recover costs associated with responding to the incident, the spokesman said."
The vice principal should be responsible for paying the police and fire officials, as well as paying the child's parents for time and even mileage. But what the hell was the VP thinking? You see a young student showing other students a suspicious device and you go run to call 911? Any moron can look at an empty coke bottle with wires and quickly determine that it's not an explosive. If it were my kid, I would have that principal by the balls and I would give him valid reason to call the police. What a joke.
"A MAST robot took pictures of the device and X-rays were evaluated. About 3 p.m., the device was determined to be harmless, Luque said."
This whole thing reminds me of that Baby Ruth in the pool incident in Caddyshack. Lets drain the pool and send in hazmat to determine what that floater is....ridiculous.
Im not very well informed about research grants so correct me if I am wrong. It is my understanding that a university that is researching something may have multiple grants for that research, public and private. If I am correct about this, how would that affect the release of information regarding the research?
"I request any former students or clients not to post comments saying what a wonderful lawyer and/or professor I am."
The term "wonderful lawyer" may be an oxymoron. But seriously, it's one thing to restrict a lawyer from advertising, but for a client to not be able to post information about a lawyer is just stupid. So is this just restricting positive posts only?
I really like Jackson's work, but I have no problem boycotting him the same way I boycotted Metallica after I saw Lars Ulrich's pathetic rant about how people that use Napster are stealing from him. I still do not listen to or purchase anything by Metallica. I can recognize that they are a great band, but to this day, every time I hear a metallica song on the radio(which I immediately change) I still remember good ole Lars crying about the money he didnt get. And how many years ago was that?
France is always so far ahead in the fashion world, and the same is also true when it comes to France and the internet. Normally, it would be silly to think that anyone could ask for something to be completely deleted off the internet, but this is totally different. It is painfully obvious that France is the first to reach the end of the internet, and in so doing, they have obtained the right to complete control of the internet.
Isn't this backwards? Shouldn't she be thanking the film makers? Every time I see a can of soda in a movie, I wonder how much they paid the film makers for the advertising. This is ridiculous. Pretty soon municipalities will charge for the city's skyline...pathetic.
"it's certainly implied that Kardashian's paid sponsorship had something to do with her messages against the cookie people."
That's exactly what I was thinking. The only reason she's upset about it is because she's being paid to promote QuickTrim...without that, this whole thing is a non issue. Who cares what diet she's on....when it comes to Kim Kardashian, my only thoughts are when is the next sex vid or Playboy spread coming out b/c her ass is AMAZING!
"If you have no control over the actual content, it seems like you should be protected."
Protected only after having your name dragged through the mud in court. This seems to fall under the "ignorance of the law" defence. If anyone had child porn on their website, I doubt the authorities would care if they are hotlinked or not...at least, not initially. You should know what is on your website, and when modifications are made. If hotlinking takes that control away, then its best to not do it.
There are pitfalls to hotlinking, but from a copyright standpoint, hotlinking appears to be the only method to use since it leads the end user directly to the original content.
I watch netflix on my XBox 360 much more than I watch DirecTV, but it wasn't until I watched the video game awards on spike.com that I realized how amazing internet tv can be. Spike offered multiple uncensored cameras and one was even back stage. DirecTV's one censored, commercial filled, delayed broadcast simply cannot compete with that.
