Sorry Fred, there's no need to change the law; software patents are illegal. All software is proven to be algorithms and algorithms cannot be patented.
As the old politician said, "There's only one thing worst than bad publicity and that's no publicity. You ain't somebody if nobody is talking about you."
I stopped listening to music from the record labels years ago. The DRM-free music is available for free and it's just as good if not better. So why is this a problem for anyone? Just say no.
One thing that is missing is that the record companies don't want just to end piracy, they want to use DRM to gain a monopoly on all the world's music.
