Us yanks would salivate at the idea of everyone in France sending someone in the US a 20 kilo package of cheese and wine each month to help us to better understand the culture.
Yeah I wondered about the process server ring the doorbell and leaving. When I got out of high school I worked serving papers in California. I had to make sure of 2 things 1 the person would self identify, and 2 that I left the papers. Mostly it was ring the doorbell and ask are you _______? If I got an affirmative I handed them the papers and announced they had been served. If they wouldn't take them I was instructed to let them fall on their feet.
The hardest part was to get them to self identify, wearing brown clothes and carrying a metal clipboard worked pretty good for that though.
Re: Well, in this case, the reason is NO ACTUAL HARM.
Since this isn't the first time the question of stripping the audio had come up I'll address it.
This isn't like a video of some kids playing soccer and someone lays a sound track on it to make it funny.
This is people in their home enjoying life when everything aligns properly and you get what once was called a Kodak Moment™. Taking the the audio off, or as you suggest, just taking the music off(something well beyond the abilities of the average person filming something with their phone) pretty much destroys the entire experience. This is why a few years ago your handlers quit making movies without sound.
Mr. Anonymous Coward would benefit from learning more about how reading comprehension works. Many Techdirt articles have detailed explanations of what they are discussing. Trolls like to read a headline and then draw an erroneous conclusion - often without even skimming the article, missing the explanations and background information that enables understanding. It is classic trolling and the fact that the author of this post doesn't get it is bewildering.
To fix the system we need a bunch of Techdirt readers who get hammered by Murphy's law to go get some patents with the intent to rake in the cash becoming patent trolls. As soon as a few of us have everything lined up to stert sending out the extortion ummm I mean settlement letters, this law will sail through.
Actually, if you use Firefox and haven't put maximalists into the dictionary it will correct to minimalists. So yeah the spell checker borked the first post but I don't know what happened with the second one.
