The community I represent doesn't think much about copyright or fair use at all, which is why you don't hear from us very often. After all, we aren't paid huge sums of money to send you emails like Chris Dodd is. We aren't paid to try and get laws passed and trade agreements made to benefit ourselves. We aren't in the room when all those industry representatives get together to decide what's best for our country. In fact, we aren't even allowed in the room.
But we're the reason you have a job. We're the ones you're supposed to be helping. We're the people most affected by your trade agreements. Your job isn't to help Chris Dodd keep his job, and what's best for Chris Dodd my not be best for us.
All we ask is that you keep us in mind through all of this, because your job, most of all, is to represent us. You're all we've got to protect us from Chris Dodd and all those seeking to profit from your actions. Please stand up for us.
"How come they don't have to play by the same rules we do?"
Big media companies hate it when us normal people do what they do without having to get permission, make licensing deals, or pass everything through their legal department.
Re: Google gives NSA "direct access", so says Snowden.
Even if that's true, how does that make it different than any other multi-million dollar corporation? Blaming Google for that is like blaming oranges for being orange.
Re: Re: Re: And "seizing" domains with infringing links is nothing like censorship!
If they can't make $100 million on a movie, then why are they spending $100 million. Nobody's forcing them to make it, and we all know movies can be made for a lot less.
Really, after 10 years of movie piracy, the industry is now bigger, stronger, and making more expensive films than ever.
So they don't want you to pirate but they won't sell it to you either. Great business model you've got there.
It's unlikely that media companies will ever realize that they're the problem that needs fixing, not the laws and not the internet and certainly not the consumer.
It's long past time people started using Vimeo or other video services. Google is needs to get out of the copyright police business and let the actual copyright holders do the work.
This blog constantly praises musicians (and all content creators) when they get things right and offer their work in a way that doesn't attack, vilify, discourage, or inconvenience fans of that work, as it considers such actions bad for business and bad for the arts in general.
