if nothing else, it's longer than a New Zealand election term, meaning odds are good that the information contained there in will have no meaningful effect on the election chances of whoever signed it here.
i think the issue with incompatibility might have more to do with Microsoft, seeing as how OpenOffice.org seems to go out of it's way to handle Microsoft's file formats.
especially as Microsoft has a habit of attempting to sabotage any standardization that would let other people's stuff work when they want people using their own.
(IE's incompatability with the standards everyone else used, for example.)
i fail to see why. Other evil empires can't screw over your day to day life. yours can. other evil empires aren't affected if you know what they're up to, yours is, and so on and so forth.
then again, 'trust' can mean many things. (trust someone to be honest, trust them to be predictable, trust them to have your best interests as a primary objective, trust them not to be an idiot...) some are more dependant on the availability of data and past actions than on actual trustworthyness, i guess.
though the point, which is 'and why the hell should we take any meaning from your statement other than that you're a spiteful arse', stands none the less.
the ability to do this is a large part of the entire point in the exercise of most facets of government not directly involved in actual day to day running of the country under a 'representative democracy', actually.
the article actually outright Says that it may well be simple clerical (administrative) error ( at either Universal or Sound Exchange. )
so i'm not sure exactly where 'universal was claiming the royalties' comes from, though it's a reasonable conclusion and, based on past events, the more likely cause.
and Orange Snowflake AC, stop being an idiot. you're attacking the article for something it doesn't even say. more specifically, for something it goes out of it's way not to say, by making a point, that is made in the article. seriously. brain more.
.... it doesn't take much effort to apply that to a lot of places, but i think the USA has the claim of being one of the few, if not the only, who's leaders manage to stuff up everyone Else as well...
(also, anyone saying 'one of the only' shall be beaten into a coma with a minnow.)
the entire point in the existence of political parties is to undermine the democratic process.
it may not be the intention of those employing them, but it's the main thing they Do.
without them, even First Past the Post elections of representatives are actually.... representative.
with them it becomes a joke.
(and now i'm wishing i could remember how i explained the whys and wherefores of this some years back.)
people try that left/right bullshit here too... burying the actual meaningful issue in nonsensical partisanship, but Most of the time it gets written off as ignorant trolling. (to be fair, that's probably partiallly because we only have three year terms and the immediate response is usually 'yeah, and your party did The Same Damn Thing. go away already.' hehe.) it doesn't seem to have been accepted as the general reality like it has in the states.
(entertainingly, those most prone to doing so are supporters of a certain segment/variation of National or one of the more extreme right wing parties. parties whose ideology seems to consist of 'be more like the USA by breaking the system further and somehow profit from it'. oh well.)
on an only kinda-sorta-maybe related note, forget the world, the Anglo-sphere is bigger than just the US and the UK :) (the vast majority of it is ex-british colonies, mind you.)
on a more relevant note: what he said :D
(that said, it is possible to word the part of the sentence before the comma in such a way that it says the same thing but the part After is not missing the word 'as'. unfortunately, this is not the case here, so it is.)
the above two comments are either incredibly funny, incredibly insightful, or depressing in what they imply about reality by not being wrong. or any one of a number of other serious/amusing things.

it's a meme, and your question is half the point.
read it as your post quoted but 'rape' replaced with 'copyright infringment' and followed by the line 'FTFY'.
it's basically the same thing.

and if that's all it is, fixing it the first time should have put an end to the matter.
what is it, once is happenstance, twice coincidence, but three times is enemy action?
it would seem that this particular event is up to 'twice' so far, yah?
