We are witnessing the precipice of a major war and if we do nothing, millions of people will die, even more would suffer, any chance for a quick and nonviolent peace is slipping away by passing hour.
You know, all of these bills reveal Blumenthal as one thing: he does not respect children. Or any minorities of that matter. For a Democrat, Blumenthal is pretty damned prejudiced. He comes across as extremely patronizing towards children, treating everyone as if he has a higher IQ level. And the solution is always this: to reenact the Allegory of the Cave by locking children (16 & under) in his cellar and force them to watch shadow puppets on loop. If Blumenthal truly did “think of the children,” he shouldn’t be pumping out shit like this.
Jeez, with that attitude, you’re essentially allowing Earn It to pass.
Not to say that it’s not okay to worry shitless, because it is. This was highly expected that Earn It would pass out of committee, but there is a silver lining to it. The bill was voted out of committee unanimously, but There were legit concerns raised by five senators, four Democrats and a Republican. If they are true to their word, then that means that Earn It could face a slowdown of momentum, giving more time for the opposition to strengthen. Plus Blumenthal made a fatal mistake of admitting that Earn It is an attack on encryption, which he might as well thrown in the smoking gun before a judge. His words would be used against him. This is all hypothetical, but there is room for hope.
Why the Judiciary Committee is going straight to a markup, rather than holding hearings with actual experts, I cannot explain, but that's the process.
I think it’s quite simple why they’re rushing the process…
it’s because the Winter Prom is the day after! They’re finishing up so that they can setup the event and dance the night away!
Okay, but what does this have to do with anything? I mean, you’re not wrong, the British Empire did do morally bankrupt and fucked-up decisions based on an imperialistic mindset. But what does the history of Britannia have to do with content moderation?
Section 230 doesn’t enable bullying. It enables content moderation, a tool that can be used to combat bullying. If section 230 didn’t exist, there’s a possibility that you wouldn’t be able to puppet the musings of a wet fart. You can literally read section 230 for less than two minutes and understand it seamlessly. It’s 26 words long. But I imagine it’s hard to read something when your head is so far up your ass.
So piss off and quit wasting your time trying to be a devil’s advocate, you blissfully ignorant dumbass.
It’s an honor to speak to you, Mr. Masnick. I decided to go on and researched one of EARN IT’s main sponsors, the NCOSE. What I found was troubling.
These aren’t confirmations that NCOSE is anti-lgbt, but strong hints of it. Mainly through the history of its current president. Apparently the current president, Patrick Trueman, was the director of affairs for the American Family Association and a legal counsel on the Family Research Council; both of these organizations has histories spreading hateful rhetoric and are listed as Anti-LGBT hate groups by the SPLC. Looking at his Twitter, he has endorsed stories written by far-right newspapers such as Breitbart news, CNC, and AMgreatness, which has articles like this: https://amgreatness.com/2021/10/29/very-fine-people/. This confirms that the extreme mindset that Trueman hasn’t changed and might support EARN IT to go after LGBT communities.
I have a prevailing theory that if NCOSE is exposed for its shady history of its current leader, that it might cause fractures within EARN IT’s co-sponsors, potentially slowing down the passage of the bill.
Again this is theorization, but more or less, food for thought.
😬 Jesus, That was… needlessly hateful. What the fuck are you even talking about? Are you hungry? Do you need a kit-Kat? You do know that you’re not you when you’re hungry.
Well the good news was that Earn it didn’t get the time to be marked up yesterday, so that’ll give at least another week to make more racket. Unfortunately, Earn it still has the favor of the Senate. With 19 co-sponsors, this is going to be an exceptionally difficult uphill battle to fight.
With all of these odds against us, I say don’t give up. If you choose to surrender, you enable Earn It’s passage. But if we choose to fight, there could be a chance to kill Earn It. We have the people, the minds, the voices, and even the ears to do it. SOPA had similar traction, but with a quick, massively successful grassroots effort, forced its own sponsor to rescind the bill. Even if we lose, we go down swinging. And if Earn it does pass and causes the tremendous damage around the internet, we’d be there and say: “Told ya so.”
There is still room for cautious optimism, even in seemingly overwhelming odds.
Oh jeez, I don’t know who to believe more. It’s either between:
The clueless moral shill who is puppeteered by a cult of sexless prudes who might be a hate group against the LGBT community and his sole contribution are bills that are the embodiment of “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
Or
One of the two Senators who literally laid down the legal foundations of the internet.
