Maybe I'm not understanding something. What is exactly the developers beef with G2A? Do they expect to receive money every time their product is re-sold? Like the same way I keep getting money when my old Civic gets passed on from owner to owner?
I got an idea. Using a helicopter to take pictures of people engaging in mundane yet private activities - paparazzi. Not doing that - maybe a journalist.
The story says they made phone calls and faxes until they started trading emails with the security team. While it doesn't go into further detail (I would love to see those emails) it does indicate they got past level one support.
To reproduce the issue is three easy steps. 9to5mac.com was able to do it no problem. So this looks like someone on the security team or above made a call not to shut off Facetime while they worked on a fix. Meanwhile it blew up all over Twitter so they had to shut it down before the fix came out.

Here are 10 countries where people have a lot of other things to worry about. Human attention is a zero sum game. When you're worried about starvation and barrel bombs from the sky, your concern for civil liberties tends to wane somewhat.

Really? You can't conceive of any other reason? Im astounded.
6 of those 7 countries have NO FUNCTIONING GOVERNMENT or at least one that isn't riddled with Islamists or other hostile actors. Our entire vetting process is predicated on the local government to vet the traveller first. Countries like Saudi Arabia aren't on the list because they have a highly functioning police state. Meanwhile what the fuck is going on in Libya or Yemen, no one knows. Iran is on that list not because we hate Muslims, but because fuck those guys. Fuck that whole nation. You would trust an Iranian government guy to say yeah this guy is cool, we vetted him here?

I worked for a very large publishing company and was instrumental in the development, deployment and operation of their CMS. At that time our CMS was cutting edge and supported many different publications at once, so it's probably quite similar to the one the LA Times uses, in terms of both complexity and functionality.
So when someone claims that it cost them more than $5000 to undo the "hack" as described - which is basically changing three lines of text - I would call bullshit.
Someone notices the issue and emails some manager. That manager contacts an editor. An editor logs into the CMS, "checks out" the article, makes the change in a run of the mill text box, clicks preview, then publish. This takes 10-15 minutes tops.
How anyone could extrapolate $5000 or even that extra-insane-with-sugar-on-top $929,977 figure is beyond me. Just liars lying to other liars who lie to everyone.
I don't blame the liars though. Liars gonna lie. I blame Matthew's attorneys.
Isn't that just free money on the ground right there? I mean (f) is very very clear and the guy flat out admits to violating (1) and (2). If your account is monetized and some jerkoff gets it closed, that's your injury right there.
There should be a line of attorneys at the guys door, no?
There is one thing no one can argue about. The stop-and-frisk program definitely saved lives. There are people walking around right now because one of those guns was not available at the time. The opportunity passed or the circumstances changed and that person was never killed. Many of these people were decent citizens, productive, people just like you and me. If not for Bloomberg and Kelly, those people would be bones in the dirt.
Obviously as a society we make trade-offs all the time. Liberty is dangerous. People die needlessly when everyone is too free. The case law is full of restrictions on freedom, and the Constitution has been interpreted in various ways, mostly according to the will of the people. We hold the Bill of Rights in very high regard, but we redefine it constantly.
Many people, including myself, are terribly disappointed at Bloomberg and Kelly's attempt to redefine the 4th Amendment. My greater disgust though is reserved at the fact that both these men are very smart guys, and they are surrounded by more smart guys, and they all huffed and puffed and they could not for the life of them come up with a method that would get guns off the street and satisfy just one Federal judge. Just a nod to affirmative action and a little less aggression and most everyone would be happy. But no.
The sheer obstinacy was astounding. They doubled down at every point they could. Even when the writing was on the wall, they blew every chance to sanitize their operation. Their press conference today displays the same arrogance. Hey, we're too stupid and lazy to do it right and we don't care. Fuck you.
I expect better and so do most people. There is a way to get guns off the streets and preserve the rights that we all cherish. We will never get all the guns off just like we will never remove all danger and threat in our world, and we need people in charge who realize this.
