I have donated to a few Kickstarter projects, all of which have made their cutoffs.
But one of them won't be getting my money, not through Kickstarter. I signed up for Go GloSpex, which far exceeded its goal, was just about to close, and Kickstarter canceled it. No explanation was given to me (others that have gotten a response say that Kickstarter does not comment on why some projects get canceled), and nothing has even been told the project starters!
Kickstarter is being quite opaque on this project, and apparently other projects as well. If the project violated the TOS, they should be able to explain at least to the project starters what the issue is, and it shouldn't be right before the project is due to close in any case.

I consider that to be MY data. Just because they CAN track my location is not an excuse/reason that they now OWN MY data.
I think laws do need to be written that explicitly state that a person's data is the property of that person. There may very well be consequences of getting something like that passed, but we WILL have to deal with it, sooner or later.
I refuse to install any of their software. Of course, I've been an Internet customer for 8 years now.
There is zero need to install it, unless you have VOIP, or I guess the security system now. Cable TV? Nothing for me to control. Besides, I have a router, and I am more than capable of setting it up and getting it working.
but the state I live is screwed as hell. We elect a crook to governor (sorry, if anybody has to claim the 5th Amendment while they're running, they shouldn't be running let alone have anybody voter for them even if it's for dog catcher), who doesn't know one thing about governor for starters, has even the Republicans in this state wishing they could do a take back of their vote, and will, I'm sure, end in some kind of constitutional crisis.

I'm reminded of a site that had images, and using transparent gifs (stretched out the same dimensions as the picture) while the actual picture was made the background of the frame. You couldn't quite do a right click, save as, you had to do a view background, right click, save as.
The Dispatch was one of the first to take up the web in Columbus, they started using cd.columbus.oh.us (working as of about a year ago, now defunct it seems), and supported the Freenet there as well. But they still don't get it.
Their FM station carries the Buckeyes games, but you have to pay for it. Of course, there are other sources that work just as well that are free. Their TV website used to run play by play live until recently. Why would you stop that mid-season? Especially if I was still living there and just had to turn the radio on?
I'm completely baffled.
It still doesn't affect that I'm very glad and happy for Ted Williams.
In 2090, I'll be dead. My kids may or may not still be alive, but my grandkids will certainly still be alive and probably on the way to living as long as they want if not immortality. That is, if anybody is still alive on the planet.
The Technological Singularity will have come and gone, and we're either living out in space becoming a type II Kardashev civilization, or we'll be stuck on the Earth rotting as we slowly run out of resources. Possibly even both.
But it's because of the Tech Singularity that whatever we talk about here will certainly be wrong.
Twitter and Facebook replacing Google sounds like a plan, the problem is then you have to make sure you're following the right persons. If I don't, then guess what I have to do? That's right, use Google.
I'm thinking about a blanket statement on my blog (currently unavailable, it got hacked evidently, and I'm waiting for the host to get their sh--, er crap together so I can see what went wrong) that basically states that products that I talk about on my blog may or may not be covered under the FTC guidelines and see if the FTC comes after me. Because I'm quite sure that I haven't been paid a dime for anything I've written.
That's a line from Rocky Horror Picture Show, not a comment about Palin's family (like I know some people would consider it!). But that's how I feel about Palin's chances in 2012 (not that I thought she would have had that great a chance by staying in the full term at least...)

I think Mike is correct, that this is a form of the Streisand Effect.
It does prove that everybody has the right to sue somebody regardless of whether they are right or wrong about.
