In Aus we are frustrated by a right-wing government who is determined to strip away the rights of all for the same bs trotted out above and I've never seen an effective argument against their deliberately scare-inducing bs until the article on the Backpage fiasco where your writer states:
People highlight bad (really awful) stuff that happened because people abused the platform, and then assume they can just skip all of the important steps regarding pinning the liability on the company (and its founders).
This is the best answer in this instance too, they cannot blame all encryption on the shocking behaviour of a few. The root cause of terrorist behaviour needs addressing but this isn't the priority really, is it?
