The Sony Walkman, as iconic as it was, might not have ever existed if RIAA had its way. The audio cassette was in their view "dedicated to infringing activities." Never mind that in later years the record industry made millions of dollars selling "cassingles" which made it possible for them to phase out production of 45RPM records. The record companies could only see the cassette as a tool for making and distributing illegal copies of their records./div>
