I'm admin for a forum that has been online since the 90's and had same thing happen last year. Flagging posts that had been online for years. As soon as we deleted one post another would alert would appear. There would be a big blank space where the ads would be, so we got rid of it. A local law firm picks up a good chunk of the slack but more woud be better! So many ad blockers in use anyway... locally hosted static ads aren't blocked.
It's not such a bad thing I suppose. If I post something untrue I'd like to know about it. I don't understand why anyone would want to be responsible for spreading incorrect information.
However, there are issues. For example a friend posted a photo of a statue and wrote that the statue was his cousin. It was flagged as untrue. The issue was that it was satire. Of course the statue was not his cousin.
Probably a good solution for the pres would be to use something other than twitter, like Zap or Mastodon. That way he can feel more comfortable about expressing himself without being crushed by the iron fist of censorship.
I've been contacted several times by women using their sites. Scammers used my photos to set up fake profiles, then attempted to get the victims to send money and products. Some people had the smarts to do a google image search and find the real me before losing money. However, it was clear to me the company did not validate the profile and provides no way to stop it. Just to contact them they want you to set up a dating profile.
I agree, it sounded like he was worried about it and borrowed money from his parents to hire an attorney. It seemed like the legal case points were valid, but the police didn't actually contact him yet, right? He was presuming there would be trouble. I don't think I would have spent the money.
I was born and raised in the Midwest USA, in my neighborhood it wasn't even one percent dark skinned people, it was one. Like people would want to know which European country you were from so they could compare their whiteness.
i've lived in Mexico for a year, it occurred to me there are alot of American races we don't even consider. I've spent the past two years in the Dominican Republic. My daughter is Dominican. The DR is maybe a good place to work on this type of software. Dominicans consider themselves... Dominican. It's because Dominicans are a mix of several races.
In the USA attitudes are very polarized, there's white, brown and black.
Anyhow I think it's possible that a computer vision system can accurately determine a genetic mix without DNA. Humans are basically software driven robots anyway right? But our computer stuff now is kinda like written in English using math, except humans are the other way around I suppose. Our English and math are written by our computer guts.
I've noticed for a few years when I post a photo of a person with dark skin on FB it almost always asks me if I want to tag the first dark-skinned person in my friend list, alphabetically, who is a spokesmodel for an airline. I've considered always approving the recommendation but person would likely get annoyed at me. But it does seem to me that the FB algorithm "thinks they all look the same".
A friend owns several print/online newspapers and some internet sites such as sfstation. He just bought eight more failing newspapers. AFAIK He makes money in ad sales, not subscriptions.
If there is, it's not clear that it exists. I think a nag screen like Guardian is a turnoff. But maybe it gets them subscriptions. Paying just so I don't "see ads" isn't compelling. I subscribe to reddit and I'm not sure why. What do i get out of it?
I think if you put a yellow button that says Subscribe and its a cutaway into the text of the article, people see it. Its not very naggy. They click to find out what they get. There's 5 seconds to convince them to pay you 5 bucks. After they sign up, they probably won't cancel. Its too much work.
I'm curious how the 1st amendment applies to non-citizen and organization based outside the USA. I'm not challenging it, I just plain-old don't understand the legal intricacies of this situation.

No stats, no control over distribution. Distribution network gets boned on revenue. Pirated streams can swap out the ads.
