If my neighbors are waking me up in the middle of the night with some stupendously loud (and it would have to be to get through my walls) somethingorother, two things would happen. I would ask them to turn it down and then, assuming that didn't work, call the cops. I'm all for them doing whatever it is they're doing so long as it's not bothering others in the process.
However disturbing the peace doesn't really compare to what the trolls are doing here. I can ignore the trolls quite easily by not un-hiding the post and/or not reading the comments. It's a tad harder ignoring the guys who seem to be doing their level best to render me deaf./div>
They won't do that because that would make them hypocrites, a stance I happen to agree with. The trolls, and there are more than one (and on multiple sides), should be just as able to spew their venom as you are to ask for their removal. The reporting function is there to hide their posts from those who don't wish to read them. Free speech means allowing this sort of behavior. As the other poster replied, report the bad behavior and move on.
For my part I actually enjoy reading their posts. It gives me some amusement watching them try to argue/shout/curse their way out of a paper bag and fall flat on their face so many times. Some days I come on to TD to do nothing but find those posts.
As always though, don't feed the trolls. No good will come of it./div>
Are you saying all journalists are soulless sell-outs or just some of them? If it's the latter I'll agree to that. If it's the former I'm afraid we part ways. Like any group of people, there's the bad ones, the good ones, and the ones in between just trying not to get stepped on./div>
I thought Wright's order to pay legal fees had that covered? Maybe she knew that and based her decision off of that. Don't want to double dip as it were./div>
The only way this revision could POSSIBLY weaken copyright is if, by rooting/unlocking alone, folks were reverse engineering the technology/software of a given device. Then you'd be dead to rights in terms of violation, provided it was proved in court anyway
I bought the damn thing and so long as I'm not 'stealing' content with it or causing physical/mental distress to someone else with it, I should be able to do whatever the hell I want with it. If I want to move to another carrier with it, so be it. If I want to install apps that the almighty Apple doesn't like, go me. If I want to sell it to my mother-in-law for $20 I should be able to do that too.
If you disagree with the idea that what you buy (not license or rent a service/product) is YOURS and not "yours until we say so" then you've got problems, period. I didn't lease a phone, I bought one./div>
What you're not understanding is how the pharmas compute inflation, which clearly involves a few extra zeroes in there somewhere. It's an understandable mistake. /s/div>
Which would be even more hilarious as at least two of them have claimed they never discuss the positive aspects of trademark and/or copyright in the past./div>
Until someone, somewhere is caught in a verifiable lie. Shrugging your shoulders and babbling incoherently in court are unfortunately not grounds for perjury. Here's hoping./div>
Yes, I would say that. That would be assuming they weren't a foreign dignitary with diplomatic immunity. You either give them to everyone or give them to no one. I'm not ordinarily a real black and white kind of person but due process is supposed to be important in this country./div>
You are 100% correct Zakida. The moment we (public, govt., etc.) start making exceptions of that nature it goes downhill in a hurry.
A lot of people have forgotten the difference between having an opinion about a person's actions and having facts about a person's actions. I despise real world violence for example but I don't automatically condemn every person who's ever thrown a punch. You have to take things on a case by case basis, which is one of the many reasons due process exists./div>
I wasn't even aware there WAS an Author's Guild, let alone what whackjob was in charge of it. There's a fantastic line from George Carlin about being a member of a union/guild/organization that I can't seem to find at the moment. Pity that./div>
