Seems an unlikely savior has come, the RIAA have decided to pitch their lot in against the evil ITU - to keep the internets secure and free!
Let's give them the power to stop this crazy plan! All they need is for us to transfer the power over out internets to them, and they will be able to block the ITU - once and for all!!
Other countries would still have to sign up for it though, just because the US of A decide this is what they want, doesn't hold water with the rest of the world. We still have a lot of people that like our freedom from American prosecution, and that's not likely to change, America can't just decide the internet has to obey it's laws.
Why shouldn't we "give a fuck" about Inman? He's been providing free (originally created) humour for years now, yeah, that must be it, the internet is srs buisness! Get rid of all that funny junk off the internet, oh, wait... You see what I did there?
Is it getting to the stage where someone with a good talent, makes a living of selling his cartoons online, has to be an expert in law?
You're expecting Inmam to follow DMCA processes, when it's clear the opposing party doesn't.
I completely understand his side of the argument, FJ are using his content, and making money off it, it's as simple as that, he shouldn't have to be an expert in law, FJ hosts a *lot* of content, none of it is original (theirs) it's all user submitted, so they should be making it *very* easy to get stuff removed.
Personally I'd make a dash from the shower to the phone if the curtains are closed, but I'm not the sort to wander about naked for no reason. If I don't want you seeing me naked for no reason, why should I hand over other personal/revealing information for no reason?
Not quite as bad as that, the NY Yankees could probably build a new stadium in another part of New York without the fuss. Apparently Spurs (or Tottenham Hotspurs as they are known) can't.
But Liverpool could move anywhere across Liverpool without this trouble, since Tottenham isn't that big a place (it's just a small part of London), it's basically impossible for Spurs to move around inside it if they really wanted.
I'm just amazed that a company can spout such ridiculous misinformation, and (a) get away with it, and (b) get politicians to listen to it.
Over here in the UK we have lots of regulators, every time one of the broadband suppliers starts making absurd claims, all the others go to Ofcom and make complaints so they don't look so bad.
Personally if I voted for any of the chimps that are listening to this, I'd be complaining to them first, and not voting for them next time round.
Since when were Apple an independant source for good advice? Apple advises music industry to wait till it has it's own offering (and can therefore cream more cash from fanbois), nothing new about that.
So they bought themselves time to catch up with the times, and stopped any competition getting a good foot in the American market door. Sounds like a good plan (for them) to me.
its also very interesting to read the comments above, while some are interesting others seem to jump to the defence of "we are still bigger/better", i think anyone can spot the american posters with ease.
it seems to me that the average (and i dont mean everyone!) american has a hard time accepting they are not the world, the ignorance of some people really astounds me, accept that america does not own everything, look round your house and see all those japanese items like your TV/DVD player? read underneath about 1/2 your household appliances and you will see "made in china/taiwan", you guys send billions abroad every year which will hurt your economy and you wonder why its struggling? sure it makes the rich exec's get million dollar bonuses as they have saves the company money, but in the long term your draining money from your own country

its absurd that this article linked another dated 2002 ... of course its a crazy idea, but in 2002 patenting an IM bot was a *little* more feasible (although still slightly stupid)

Also to the trumped up dude (cant be bothered to look up the post), this is a techie news site, so you are expected to be a techie to read/understand what its on about, further we techie people expect spelling and grammar checkers to go over everything we type, as this does not happen when we click submit it confuses us, and we cant go back and edit our comments anyway.

How many people have a store card? I mean c'mon, people whinge about google's policy, what about the personalised offers you get from tesco on products you purchase regularly (or are similar to)?
Every time you swipe your tesco store card they know where you live, what you bought, when was the last time you bought it, but who cares enough to complain? Nobody. If you don't like this you dont hand over your card at the till. People who are really that concerned about this kind of thing need to start taking responsability for their own online actions.
