Before was near $300 a month for 5 boxes and 100 mb/s cable internet.
I cut the cord because I hated paying for ESPN, only thing I missed was Adult Swim. Now that Adult Swim cancelled Venture Brothers, No reason whatsoever to ever consider Comcast again.
Just roofed my house with the savings. Spent 2 weeks doing it with my brother instead of paying someone else, because of all the free time I have not watching TV.
I haven't patronized a Gamestop or Thinkgeek since the day they forcibly bundled their stash of NES classic consoles with a bunch of other junk to clear their warehouses. Until that point, I'd purchased every console since the PS1 from my local store.
I get that they're desperate to survive as physical media fades, it was why I still enjoyed going into a store and getting a copy that couldn't be revoked by a license after the fact.
Never again, not one red cent.
As we saw with these bundles, there are plenty of other folks out there willing to throw their money at them. (just not enough to save the company). I get the same product, for the basic retail price at my local Grocery/Etc store without the feeling of being disrespected by Corporate (I truly feel bad for Employees stuck between the customer and Corporate).
"Long story short, ThinkGeek told us they've managed to stockpile "thousands" of the popular discontinued console (thanks to corporate overlords at GameStop) and will be selling them today at 12 p.m. PT sharp, limit 1 per person, and only in the United States.
And -- yes -- ThinkGeek too is scalping them to some degree. They'll only be available in bundles with a bunch of other Nintendo merchandise, with prices ranging from $140 to $220. (The going price on eBay is around $200, for your reference.)"
Every person playing this fake "I'm disabled" game should spend one day in my body. If you are so medically fragile that a mask is a risk, you shouldn't be exposing yourself to the public for your own safety.
I can understand the need to feel normal. Those of us who already have their ability to interact with the world limited by circumstance usually don't enjoy additional restrictions.
I've been disabled for almost 30 years now.
I'm up to 7 shoulder procedures. Plate, 6 screws, Suprascapular nerve nearly severed on the right side due to bone regrowth. Left side anterior Bankart, right hand crushed in a press, both feet spiral fractured through the arches, jawbone dislocations, hip dislocations.
"You're so big, you can't be disabled." (6'5") I look "normal", and my life has been a string of random people trying to fight me for using disabled parking, I've had a Vet go after my (at the time ) 17 year old daughter for inheriting my genetically bad connective tissue.
I walk with a cane, sometimes 2. Can't lift them much past my hips.
I can't even wear glasses that hook down at the back, otherwise the frames cut through the tops of my ears. Straight-arm glasses are a pain to find.
I can go on. Look up Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, rest is bad luck/manager took safety off the press that would have saved my hand.
My circulation draws my blood out of my limbs, concentrating it in my torso, I get heat exhaustion anywhere over the mid 70's. A mask is sheer torture. I still wear one when I go out.
My mask ties at the base, and crown of my skull. If I can manage it, with my shoulders, anyone healthy enough to walk around can do it.
People who pull this fake disabled crap just make my life even harder.
My wife is a manager in the Insurance industry (workmen's comp) They do check to make sure people are working via laptop usage, but not this level of video intrusion.
I respect when they have to video conference, I'm disabled to the point where long clothes pull my joints out of socket. I keep my own office sounds down to accommodate her calls, and wear noise cancelling headphones to prevent hearing sensitive information.
If they want all day video surveillance, they can pay me to put on pants, or bear the brunt of their failure to think things through while they bleach their eyes with each passing of the Yeti.
Just a modicum of self control, and you subscribe to one or two things, watch what you wanted, then quit. You don't really have to subscribe to EVERYTHING at once.
Some people react less optimally to boredom, that's fine too. Go outside and play. Visit a museum, donate blood, If you've got mobility issues like me, use the time for PT.
When the media companies inevitably play games and offer only a few episodes at a time, use the savings to buy the entire season on Blu-Ray or download.
Took a few years to get my mother in law trained, but it's Happening! We're cutting the Comcast line on the 20th, Centurylink Gig service finally in my area. (From a friend with their 'net... "The Customer service sucks, but the connection is great!" )
Our bill is now going from nearly $300 , to $85 + fees and whatever we subscribe to on a month by month basis. (Kids mostly watch Japanese language shows, and the only thing I'll have to find elsewhere is "Rick and Morty".
All because Comcast tried to bump the broadcast TV Fee, and refused to remove ESPN. Those few measly dollars pushed the rest of the family over the edge.
One straw too many for the camel's back. Thank you Comcast. Goodbye!
As the son of a pair of hippies, (My Mother not being an unintelligent one as she and her co-workers built most of the pacific NW's initial internet backbone for GTE (now Verizon) back when the company thought the net was a fad, but I digress...)
Fuck that noise... They've trusted random strangers to walk up to the house and cut the corner off their station wagon to fix damage... and paid them in advance because "they didn't have the right paint" (vanished with the money), they've fallen for curb painting scams, after Dad died, Mom let some asshole talk her out of an antique, concert-grade double bass worth 8 grand at it's last valuation... (in the mid 80's... ) for $3k. (After she told me how happy she was to sell it, I had to point out she had just been screwed out of $10-15k,)
I have enough trouble keeping my flaky family from screwing themselves over as it is, they do NOT need to be acclimated to accepting random windows that pop up.
I started using Line while chaperoning teenagers on an exchange trip to Hiroshima.
I rather like it, outside of the cutesy stuff my younger kids love.
The file sharing, gif making on PC (just slap a border down and hit record) and getting my messages on PC and phone at the same time make it quite handy, the encryption is a nice touch. Video phone has worked well too.
Easy enough that my elderly mother even figured it out.
Was wearing my Nerd Harder shirt in downtown Portland near the Tillicum crossing 2 days ago.
Older gentleman approached me with a very angry look on his face, got about 10 feet away before his face softened and he exclaimed "OH, nerd HARDER.... I thought it said "Nerd HERDER" and you and I were going to have words....

Not that it matters, plenty of people with Ehlers-Danlos out there. I'm lucky, the really bad cases die of vascular or organ rupture.
My joints have just been falling apart since I hit puberty, but I'll drag myself along with my lips if I have to.

Current bill... $95 + Netflix and Hulu for Centurylink nearly symmetrical gig service.
I put on 5 lbs just hitting food carts on my walks in the neighborhood with the extra cash.
