Years ago, I used to work for a movie theatre. We kept "backup" tickets on hand, which were basically spools of carnival-style tickets, color-coded by type (adult, child, etc.) and house.
Twice while working there, the main server crashed, and we had to use the backup tickets. It certainly took longer than having the computer print tickets, but, as a back-up plan it worked. I just remember the looks on the customers' faces when they were handed carnival tickets. :-)/div>
This reminds me of the episode of "The Simpsons" where Lisa becomes a vegetarian, so the school bring in the meat council to show a propaganda video, and serves tripe afterwards./div>
Why is it then fair use to do basically the same with with music CDs? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but isn't the Kaleidascape basically the same thing as a music server for DVDs. If copying music to music servers and MP3 players is fair use, then copying a movie to a similar device should also be fair use./div>
"I have a VCR DVD Recorder and can convert (time-shift) under fair use my VHS library to DVD rather than re-purchasing VHS movies on DVD that I don't yet own on DVD."
Unfortunately, I've run across many VHS tapes that cannot be converted to DVD due to Macrovision. I guess I am expected to go and re-buy all of these movies on DVD./div>
It's not just Dell. I bought an HP laptop and was surprised to find that the soundcard on this machine is not capable of recording the stereo mix. I tried the Vista fix of showing disabled devices, and there is still no option to record the stereo mix. I am thinking of buying an external soundcard to get around this issue./div>
