  Of course the problem is different. You only can access a DRM'd file using some piece of propietary software which decides what you can an cannot do. Attemps to access the file in any other way may be illegal due to anti-circunvention laws even if what you want to do is lawful.
  
  With an encrypted, non DRM'd file, you do not have that kind of issues.

  Space travel, as stated when the money was asked for and granted. If they wanted helmets to use as wastebaskets, that's what they should have asked for.

  Then they should not have bought so many ISMI catchers in the first place. At least not with money granted for antiterrorist fight. And doing so still looks to me as a misuse of funds.

  Nope. It is like the NASA being granted funds to buy a bunch of astronaut helmets for space travel and then using them as waste baskets. It looks like a misuse of funds, no matter how suitable the astronaut helmets are as waste baskets.
  
  If the IMSI are useful to catch terrorists they do not need to go to waste. Just use them to catch the damn terrorists.

  Simpson is being deceptive and unfair when he says thet Google is offering a basic privacy tool to millions of users across Europe.
  
  Google is just being forced by the law to comply with certain requirements in certain countries. That has nothing to do with offering a privacy tool.

  Had google called Java to its version of the Java API, Oracle might have sued Google for trademark infringement, and this time on much firmer ground than the ridiculous copyright claim.
  
  Now, independent implementation of APIs and languages is quite common. Wine implements (a subset of) the Windows API and they call it Wine, not Windows. There is also Mono implementing Microsoft .NET.

  Of course Facebook is going to play the role of the arbitrary editor if they think it is in their interest. When you give a lot of power to someone you can expect them to use it.
  
  It may be true that a huge percentage of people currently get their news via Facebook, but that does not give Facebook journalism any credibility to call into question now that they deleted a random post from a random photojournalist. That's not the issue here. If you give Facebook a power comparable to mainstream media, you will get from Facebook the same you get from mainstream media. What else would you expect?
  
  Stallman has been saying "see what could happen if you rely on someone else's platform, avoid it" for a long time, but he is just an extremist...
