Someone tell us why we need this industry? Those people who lose their jobs can go work in insurance or some other legal field where you manipulate the law to prey on people for a living.
For the rest of us, who cares about the MPAA? I don't care. If they get hit by a meteorite and die today it will be a blurb on the news, probably followed by a week long celebration and sighs of relief and then the world will keep on "pirating" aka living the way we have always done.
MPAA is so insignificant and behind the pace of today's world that nothing they say deserves serious attention or critique.
If there is anything practical to be gained from this post, it is that we should turn deaf ears to these clowns and focus on being productive while they are busy trying to figure out wtf is going on.

Lawyers don't get paid based on sales figures. Lawyers get paid to "protect intellectual property" and advise copyright holders. Therefore, lawyers advise copyright holders that their "intellectual property" must be protected.
Copyright holders, in the meantime, are mostly idiots if they're still using copyright instead of getting on board with creative commons licensing.
Great point. A single person's review should not be censored imo, unless it is outright slanderous. "This guy molests animals."
So why is it ok for the services to censor people but not the contractor?
Yelp and similar services that filter reviews are already censoring free speech and altering the way a business is portrayed.
For example, my girlfriend's business has received several 5 star reviews from her clients via Yelp, yet Yelp filters those reviews for whatever reason.
The one 4 star review is all they will display. If 9 out of 10 reviews are 5 stars it would speak differently than displaying a single 4 star review.
That's not so different from circumstances like we've seen in Iran, Tunisia, Egypt and Syria when governments chose to cut people's communications.
Does it bode well for regimes that choose to pull the plug on their citizens? It only sparked the entire Arab Spring. I think the governments are more afraid of us than we need to be of them.

These cake photographers are the criminals responsible for creating the financial cliff. They should be hunted down and executed on site. The cake design industry can't be sustained as long as these thugs steal images of cakes and publish them without permission. If we lose cake in this country then Americans will need to eat up to three times as many cookies in order to maintain the current rate of obesity.
Yeah, the Wright brothers also should have never tried their stupid flying machine idea either. It was never obvious that it would fly. Why bother?
We are most fortunate to have individuals who are brave enough to try and fail until they get it right. If we had nothing but anonymous cowards in this world, we would still be living in caves.
Would a loss of economic progress hold up as well as "loss of sale" claims in court? Think of the hundreds of thousands of people who have lost their jobs because of this!
To sum up AC's statement, "New models need to improve while remaining bound to the old model." Though he may not realize it, AC is ultimately agreeing with this article.
RIAA is not as healthy as AC seems to be convinced. If only that proud ol' business model ran on belief!

There is a new model that is better. It's called file-sharing. It has smashed the old model and this article is a stellar example of why the old model prevents business new business models from competing with the undefeated champion that is internet piracy.
I am glad to see another writer putting this out there.
