    Trouble is..

if you don't innovate, you die. But it seems, these days, suing anybody who is even remotely considered "competition" is litigated against until either you (the litigator) or the person your suing goes out of business.

Fail on San Francisco Comprehensive Tours part for using anti-competitive practices.

Better to put all the criminals on an island and leave them there

Yea, Alcatraz.. Did you perhaps forget Australia? It was started out as a Penal Colony for England/U.K. Which, in a convoluted sort of way, proves that even the most hardened criminals will create a society, that, ultimately will be a "normal" (IE: functioning) society. Besides, Alcatraz was a joke. It was shut down for good reasons.

    Oh god..

Here we go.. "BSA strongly supports open standards as a driver of interoperability; but we are deeply concerned that by seeking to define openness in a way which requires industry to give up its intellectual property, the UK government's new policy will inadvertently reduce choice, hinder innovation and increase the costs of e-government," BSA "claims" that FLOSS (Free, Libre, Open Source Software) will destroy the economy and cause e-government costs to go up. What I'd like to know, is where do they get this level of stupidity? I think BSA should also claim that FLOSS will cause tooth decay, tornadoes, rotten tomatoes and Diet Dr. Pepper to taste like Regular Dr. Pepper (oh, wait.. that one is more true than not..)

    Re:

Benjamin Disraeli was the first person to come up with the three categories of falsehood. He was a Jewish politician (as in d'Israeli) who became Prime Minister of the UK ...and what are those 3 categories of falsehood?

    Re: Re: (as Twisted Insanity)

First, CPCC claims that its brought in over $150 million from the blank CD levy, and handed it out to 97,000 rights holders

At $150 million over ten years for 97,000 rights holders, you're talking about $160 per year on average.

Yes it is, and yes that $22m should be deducted before the "artists" gets paid.

    Re:

and what would your criteria be for stupidity? Perhaps you'd be made illegal?

Like everybody's been saying.. Its WHOM your targeting that matters, not what. The P2P is just an excuse to bolster support for a bill that will basically do nothing (for now).

As for calling your congressman/senator? Yes, if they get 100,000 phone calls in one month FOR/AGAINST something, they'll take heed or lose their position.

Re: 11 (as Not So Mindless American)

If its been there 2 weeks, why haven't you called the police and report it ABANDONED? It's not like the car is going to call the police and report itself as being abandoned.

DCMA and DRM (as Not So Mindless American)

Supporters of these horrible ideas need to be forced to use said ideas in the everyday manner in which the rest of us attempt to use them.
As for "software patents".. I personally think its a bunch of bull$hit.. Nothing more than lazy people wanting to make money off of the lousiest things. I'll agree with what he said in the link tho.. Source code can be copyrighted.. but patenting the software as its run on the computer is like trying to patent the results of a calculator.

Re: ok (as Not So Mindless American)

So what's a smart kid in the inner city to do? Umm use the Fafsa just like everyone else does. My upper-middle class suburban parents work thier butts off to provide an education for me.

what you fail to realize, is that the fafsa isn't always the "Get all" of getting into college.. Most colleges will overlook the "inner city/urban" applications in favor of the "suburban" applications. The reason? The "suburban" kids have money.

So they'll be following every car driving around town booming rap or metal...

At least the emo kids will be safe

Oh, and the screaming and whining and crying wont set off the system either?
    Get real.

If you're tired of being "preached to" then quit reading the comments

Nobody is forcing you to read *every single* comment. Lil'bit and Brad are two people actually coming forth and trying to educate and inform those of us who wish to actually know what the hell is really being said. I know I don't have time to ready all the links in the article, and sometimes I want to know info about something in the article. All they are doing is showing another side to the story.

    Gov'ment Idiocy (as Mark)

Heh, well.. yet another classic example of how the gov'ment would rather spend money than save it.

    Re: CP responsibility (as Mark)

It is better for them to give a falsely negative report then a folsely positive report. And so they will error on the siade of negative whenever possible. and that's exactly why they get in so much trouble.

    Re: Spelling (as Mark)

The language wasn't "stolen" at all. In fact, because "America' was originally 13 colonies of England. As for the measuring system.. england (and most of europe) uses the metric system, America uses imperial. We have our own money, and after 200+ years, how could we -steal- anything. This article isnt about theft, its about copyright infringment (false claim imho, due to the "fair use" doctrine)
