Under such a idiotic argument, the cost of the new Marvel Avengers movie should be $50, because it costs $220 million vs some other movie that only costs $10 because the budget was $60 million.
Really? Think movie goers would take that? No... the $50 ticket movies would TANK... plus they'd be pirated and distributed because people do not perceive the value to be as much as it is. In laymen's terms... people don't like to be cheated... and they don't like to feel like they're being cheated.
eBooks are the publishers way of cheating customers. They take virtually NO money to convert and virtually no money to distribute. I know... I've published both hardcopy books and eBooks.
I price the eBooks MUCH lower because they don't get anything they can physically hold in their hands AND, it doesn't deplete the stock at all nor cause me to need to do another run of books.
It's just used car salesmen trying to put one over on you... yup... a little ole lady only read this eBook on Sundays...
The real confusion is the ability of companies to deceive buyers into believing that you are BUYING the movie.
If instead, it was VERY obvious that you are not buying the movie, but "leasing" or "licensing" it... people would act differently.
Currently... they suppose (rightfully so), that buying a DVD is like buying a toothbrush or screwdriver. You buy it... it's yours... you can do whatever you want with it.
The difference is not plain nor evident that this is NOT the case with intellectual "property".
It's a big scam that the government SHOULD have put a stop to (since it's blatantly consumer fraud), but which the government is being well paid to ignore.
So typical of the heavy handed policies of so many wannabe tyrants in schools.
Schools need an overall. Throw out tenure. Throw out the unions. They serve no one but themselves.
Let teachers and principles all be judged on MERIT. If I did as poor a job as some teachers, I'd be out of a job. In the school system, it takes an act of God to get rid of a teacher, unless they (God forbid) friend one of their students on Facebook... oh wait, an intelligent Judge threw that out.
So... government officials... including Supreme Court Justices... are sworn to uphold the Constitution. When they fail to do so, they are committing a crime against the nation... isn't that treason?
Obviously, THEY don't want to see it that way. But I can't help but think that deliberately or in complete ignorance chipping away at the Constitution should be punishable by death.
I would prefer public firing squad to dissuade others.
In the Cold War, there were top level spies who didn't want peace. Why? Because they would lose their money, power and influence.
Same thing now... only it's the lawyers who gain from mutually assured destruction.
I'm fairly certain that the signers of the Constitution would personally line up the writers of every piece of Copyright and Patent legislation and introduce them to the 2nd amendment.

It's all an illusion... no one but Big Media can own a "piece of the action". Everything in the world that has been, is being or will ever be created is their property.
The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can just pay them to take pictures of your family, friends, etc. In fact... any pictures that might be snapped by monkeys handling your camera... they also belong to them.
In an age where Intelligent Judges or Tech-savy Judges are almost an oxymoron, it's good to see we still have some sitting on the bench who can look at things objectively and in the light of technology.
Ok... it was paraphrasing actually... and it's not copyright infringement from The Passion, since it's actually from the Bible... which I believe God left with creative commons license to use as long as you don't modify...
So... if someone claims copyright on the Bible because they changed something... then... well... their creative commons license is revoked... and they are violation of God's copyright...

Plus... copyright is on a single expression of an idea. Somehow... I don't remember there being a BAR in any of Tolkein's books called "The Hobbit". Nor do I remember any drinks called Gandalf, Frodo or Gollum in any Tolkein literature.
As far as using likenesses... last I checked, there were no "publicity" rights in Britian... so if they bought a photo... what exactly would be the law against displaying it? Or, if the licensed a photo of the actors from something like BigStock... the violation is... where?

I have no problem competing against free. In fact, I never both to check to see if my products are pirated... I don't care.
If someone pirates my books, CDs, apps, etc... that person has a much better chance to become a customer of my other products.
And if not, big deal... I'm always creating new streams of revenue.
I DON'T make one thing and then expect to sit back and reap the rewards for the rest of my unnatural life.
None of the great artists throughout history did. Did Mozart stop after his first symphony and expect to live on it for the rest of his life? Bach? Van Gogh? Shakespeare? Mark Twain? Robert Frost?
No, all great artists have one thing in common. They kept creating.
