This has been getting plenty of media attention lately, but more along the silence the other party side. I first caught this across my news feed middle of the week. It appears the authors sit on opposing sides of the political fence. Shirley is apparently a conservative, while Perlstein is liberal. This appears to be more of an Ideology war, with copyright and plagiarism as the weapons of choice in a smear campaign. I am including some sites, including at least one conservative site for a semblance of balance.

Say what ever you will about Verizon as a company. I am thankful for currently having FiOS. Just got moved to synchronous speeds and checking multiple servers with speedtest.net, got 55-59 down stream and 60-65 upstream.

There is something to be said for fiber to the building.

IIRC..I saw this story on one of the other Tech sites...

Or possibly even CNN. Either way, from what I remember, the little bitch of a loser traced the victim's online info to get his address. A little dose of online sleuth work. Then made the call via Skype instead of land or cell line. Finding this puke will be a little harder, but will make the LEOs just a little more peeved when they do.
Personally, the vindictive side of me hopes when they do find him, they go in with full Tactical gear and dogs. I want them to pull this kid out of his house smelling like shite because he shite his pants.

    Moron in a hurry test?

    Just on first glance:
Ears are wrong, mouth is way different, eye shape and placement are way off.

Those 3 observations took me all of about 3 seconds to process.

    Re: Re: Re:

I am fortunate enough to have children in a district with a dress code that is sensible, but no forced uniforms. Kids are allowed to express themselves within reason. The dress code is pretty mild and compares to what i was used to in school. The bully policy is pretty cool in that they use mediation between students with peers and counselors present before resorting to more firm punishments(great way to teach a life skill in conflict resolution). We have "resource officers" in the schools, but from all indications they only engage in extreme circumstances(actual criminal activity). FIghts are usually broken up by Staff.
This is surprising considering that the district(in Texas) is a growing one with a large portion of the district still covering rural communities. Diversity is growing(although still quite weighted towards Caucasians) and there is a general level of tolerance to differing personalities.

Re: Two supposed deaths in Germany

Thorsten, did you actually read the article you linked? Me thinks not. Some quoted parts(translated):
    Headline
"smoking weed is not a cause of death"
"Forensic pathologist from Dusseldorf suspect a connection. However, the can not be proved"

"For Tsokos is clear: "This is about coincidence, not causality."

"So far was the theory of cannabis does not die one," says Benno Hartung. The forensic pathologist at the University Hospital in Dusseldorf has investigated the deaths of the two men, and the results documented in the magazine Forensic Science International published (Hartung, 2014) . "We're talking about individual cases of very rare events," he says.

Maybe read the article before spewing ignorance. Smoking marijuana may kill you, but it will be due to lung damage(same as smoking) or being dumb enough to drive or operate potentially dangerous machinery while under the influence.

Search result for Lumen View yields...

    They are suing:
Jobvite, Findthebest(noted here), Monster Worldwide, RealMatch, Careerarc.

All other entries on page 1 for Google Search are articles and blog posts related to their Trolling efforts.
Boing Boing, Techdirt, Businessweek, Arstechnica, and Trollingeffects.

Better watch out Google, Bing, etc...you are gonna be sued for hate crimes!

Re: Re: Jack Bauer: the American role-model

Are you willfully ignorant? Gitmo and any number of headaches we are facing today from the trampling of rights and police state were effectively setup by Bush and his administration. While both parties are to blame, these "laws" and "institutions" were knee jerk reactions passed with bi-partisan support in both houses.
President Obama is not without guilt. He has repeatedly reversed course on any number of topics that are cornerstone to maintaining a free society. However, put the blame where it accurately lies. Neither political party/ideology is without blame here.

    Re: Re:

Actually, a more apt solution would be the following.
A cop who has one initial suit filed where the City/PD pays a settlement, would be suspended without pay for 2 weeks(does not equate in dollars but loss of pay is a loss). For future settlements tied to the officer up to the third one, the suspension would increase in 2 week increments. If office received a 4th complaint and finding with settlement, he would be terminated and all pension moneys "earned" would be forfeit to assist in covering the cost of the insurance and settlements.
This way the officer would face real punishments, the city would see some return from the offenses, and ultimately, repeat offenders would be removed from the city payroll.
For the officers I have dealt with in the last few years, i have utmost respect. They treated my politely and with respect. However, there are just enough jerks on the various forces, that this method would likely yield net benefits in that those with Napoleon Complexes would be removed from public service.

Re: Re: For those of us living in countries with saner measurement systems

Hey "buddy", real football, as described by over 6 Billion people in the world is played on a field(pitch) of this approximate size, 105 by 68 metres (115 yd × 74 yd). While "football" can be used to describe a number of sports more or less related like American football, Aussie rules football, etc...Football in most countries when stated with no qualifier, refers to what us "yanks" call Soccer.
Now, to put into perspective for the original poster(whose measurment equivalences are pretty good, 90ft would be 30yrds, which would be just over 1/4 the length of a standard Pitch.

    Re: Blame Bush

    Blame everyone:

I lean slightly liberal in my opinions and views. I see good ideas on both sides. However, while none of the last handful of Presidents have been great, good or even so so in performance, they each have positive things they have done. I am at a complete loss to find any of the good that W. did, but I am sure there is something. Thanks to the parties at fault for the Sept. 11th attacks, we as a country were thrust into a 2 front war in Iraq and Afghanistan. While Afghanistan was a necessary target due to Osama Bin Laden, Iraq was a needless cost in terms of lives and resources. It has been proven that the intel/data handed to Bush was false and he bought it hook, line and sinker. Depending on your sources, he may have even been culpable in the gathering and dissemination of this info. W. Bush will have an ongoing legacy as a war monger. Unfortunately, by not following on his promises to end the conflict and just get the hell out of the Middle East, Obama is following suit. Additionally, the originator of this particular flavor of stomping over our rights and freedoms is the Bush Administration. Again, Obama is defending this and continuing it, so he becomes guilty in his own right.
Blaming one side or the other completely is stupid, pointless and plays to the Partisan Bullshit you are being force fed on a daily basis by most aspects of our News and Political machines.
Read all, I repeat, all versions of a news story or policy idea both from major outlets and from newer start ups. Then you will likely have enough information to form an intelligent and educated decision.

NO reason to have hidden this post

This was very reasonable and intelligent post. There was absolutely no reason to have "reported" it. While I do not agree with his posts a majority of the time, he did not attack anyone or post inane drivel.

Exactly. I don't think it will be on very many voter's minds either, because they know not only can another deal be reached some time in the future, but it might end up being even better for the UK.

I can't imagine this being an issue that really rocks the boat.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Passerby - NOT a silly fight.

While i agree that the Web Host over reacted here, this situation would not have occurred had that hack(in my opinion), Gina, not issued the DMCA notice. Ultimately, a very badly written law in the hands of a greedy lawyer looking for billable hours and a self centered self professed "expert"/blogger caused this over reaction to occur. Get rid of the law(and the greedy, unethical buggers(lawyers) and this situation would not have happened.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:

By "rooting" your phone you are either unlocking the bootloader, or bypassing the bootloader(think Motorola and most Verizon Wireless 'Droid phones). Either way, from research and playing that i have done with my Android devices, you can do all kinds of things the carriers/manufacturers don't want or intend for you to.
Also, a number of ROMs for android provide support for different base bands, most of the time they are carrier specific, but with knowledge and patience, you could conceivably allow a Sprint branded device access to Verizon Wireless' network.

Bandwidth does not equal data amount used

Bandwidth is the size of the pipe. Data is what flows thru the pipe.
Ergo, Data Cap(amount you can use) is pointless when trying to control Bandwidth issues(size of pipe). Throttling, while just as heinous, would do more to satisfy the bandwidth issues that capping the amount of data a person can use.

This is nothing more than a straight money grab by all Wireless and Wireline telcos. Even with using basic services like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest, etc... you can blow thru a Data Cap. This does not include the 2-6 email accounts a number of people have and access.

    Re: Re: Health Care

As a resident of Texas, there are a large number of us that realized a long, long time ago, that Rick Perry and his ilk are ignorant morons. Unfortunately, my state is full of them all willing to vote for him and his kind.
I view my self as a centrist in my political views. Each Ideology has positive ideas and each has really bad ones.
One of these days, I hope that Darwin addresses this dearth of idiots here and allows those of us who actually think, investigate and use common sence(now known as a Super Power) to actually affect change. Until then, I will keep SMDH and occasionally ROFL at the idiots.
Final thought...there are some really good people here, try not to think too unkindly of those who actually use the brain within our skulls.

    Re: Brazen

    @ horse with no name, May 6th, 2013 @ 8:22pm

You sir/madam/it(?) have absolutely no clue. You are potentially as bad or worse than that insanity who calls himself out_of_the_blue or AJ. Brazen are the actions of Prenda and associates/patsies. The 80K that Judge Wright ordered is miniscule to the costs afflicted upon numerous others. What is going to be exceptionally entertaining are the fines, judgements, etc...that the associate Fed entities hand down. This will be an anal reaming on par with using an oil drill to clean out a tooth cavity. This is karma/divine retribution at its finest.
